Kim Hoffman Obituary

Kim E. Hoffman, 59, of Glastonbury, CT passed away peacefully on January 18, 2022 after an 8½-year battle with Ovarian Cancer. Kim fought with bravery every day and was relentless in her pursuit of better health. Kim was the beloved wife of Joy Cipollo. Born in Boston, Kim grew up in Newton, MA where her love for music and connection to so many lives started. Kim attended Newton High North and from there she studied pre-med and graduated from Bard College. She earned her Masters Degrees in Biochemistry at UMASS, Social Work from UCONN and Integrative Health at The Graduate Institute. Kim brought a passion to helping young people as a Social Worker to Conard High in West Hartford for 28 years, especially those students who struggled to find their true identity and course in life, while navigating through hardship. While at Conard High she enriched the Girls Tennis Team as Head Coach for 14 years. In addition to her wife Joy, Kim leaves her father, Herbert Hoffman, brother Barry Hoffman and his husband Chris Larson-Hoffman, and their daughter Hope Larson-Hoffman. She is predeceased by her mother, Ludmila Hoffman. She leaves her Stepsons Tom Cipollo, wife Wendy and grandson Chase; John Cipollo, wife Bobbie, grandson Kaden and granddaughter Kensley; brother in-law Mark Bruzas and husband Bruce Gilmore, and so many wonderful friends. Kim lived her life with passion and purpose, always standing up for what she felt was just and right, which was exemplified by her commitment to a vegan lifestyle and advocating for people in need. Kim had inspiring musical talent; a story teller extraordinaire. She moved many lives as she lit up every instrument she played and brought audiences to silence while performing her most tender, beautiful, sensitive, and passionate self-written songs. Many thanks to the Hartford Healthcare Gyn Oncology team, Kim had a very special relationship with their entire staff. Kim worked as a strong advocate for the Medical Aid in Dying Bill for CT. Please reach out to CT legislators in support of this bill. Due to Covid, there will be a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please consider your favorite animal sanctuary or rescue organization. A celebration of Kim's life may be held this Spring

Kim and I worked together in MA - we were dear friends and lived in West Hartford as she started her MSW and I finished mine in Boston. We got together a few times after I moved to Maine and had my daughter. But we had not been in touch since I moved to NC in 2008. I am utterly shocked to read of her death. I am glad that she found happiness and family in these later years.

I was so sorry to hear of Kim's death. I remember her in the music room at warren junior high with Junching Lin both playing their violins and chasing each other around the room. In perfect harmony

Dear Joy and Hoffman Family,

I was fortunate to work with Kim throughout her career at Conard. Whether it was in the school building or on the tennis courts, Kim´s influence and caring nature were ever present. Her dedication to the well-being of the students at Conard, as well as the staff, was a constant throughout those many years. Her absence has left a void for those who knew how much she gave to the Conard community. We were lucky to have her.

With deepest sympathy.

My condolences and prayers. Coach was an incredible person, role model, and inspiration - we occasionally texted to keep in touch well after I graduated from Conard. She used to think her visiting frogs were good luck, I wish the souvenir ones I had given her had watched over her better. Joy and family - Please take comfort in the knowledge that she has left a lasting impact on many lives.

RIP Kim. She was a fine fiddle player and musician and we played together a time or two. And of course I would see her at the gym and always marveled at how effortlessly fit she was. We had gotten out of touch in the last 10 years or so, so I had no idea of her situation/journey. I'm so sorry such an upbeat person/spirit had to go through all this. WHY????

Kim and I met and played sports together at Bard College. The one summer I lived in Boston, Kim attempted to teach me to play tennis with limited success! One of the joys of Facebook has been the ability to reconnect with people from our past and Kim was one of those I never forgot and have enjoyed reconnecting with. It was with sorrow that I heard today of her passing. My heartfelt condolences to her partner and her family.

Kim was so awesome with our Conard students! I knew if I sent one of my kids to Kim's office, they would always come away better than how I sent them in. She was a ball of energy and the desire to help others just glowed around her; I think that alone helped many students. She was also there for the staff, encouraging us to take care of ourselves and always inviting us to stop by her office if we needed to talk or had questions. To her family, I am so sorry for your loss.

I have such great memories of working with Kim when I was a juvenile probation officer. We had so many cases together over the years and I know Kim and I helped a lot of kids. I am retired now and I think of Kim often. She even came to a house warming party my friends threw for me! My best to her whole family and to all her friends and loved ones. Many people are thinking of you during this difficult time.

I'm so very sorry to hear of Kim's passing. She had a special spirit and I feel lucky to have known her enough to see it. Absolutely loved her sense of humor. She was a great teammate on our tennis team and she was so grateful for every day she had on the court. My sincere condolences to Joy, her family and friends especially Katehb. She will be missed.

I knew that Kim was a special person when my border collie Olive took to her right away--a good sign. Kim would often take time from her busy schedule to toss Olive a few tennis balls and give her a pat on the head.

Although Kim was a far better musician than I am, we connected through a mutual love of fiddle music as well as fondness for dogs. Olive and I will miss Kim greatly. I can already see Olive looking for Kim during our walks.

Sending deepest condolences to Joy and Kim´s family. I´m grateful to have known Kim and to have experienced seeing her perform her beautiful music. Her music, kindnesses, social work - and her concern for animals and advocacy for the dying are all part of a legacy that continues to influence all of us for the better... she lives on in our hearts....
