Kurt Haller Obituary

HALLER, Kurt The family, friends and colleagues deeply mourn the passing of Kurt Haller of Storrs, retired professor of Physics at UConn. He passed away on Wednesday, (May 5, 2004) shortly before his 76th birthday. It was clear to those who knew him, that he was extraordinarily dedicated to his work in Physics. But beyond that, his intellectual integrity, his productive career and his readiness to participate actively in academic service, brought him the friendship, respect and recognition of his students and colleagues throughout the world. He completed his A.B. and graduate studies at Columbia University, receiving his Ph.D. in theoretical physics there in 1958. He first held a post-doctoral fellowship at Washington University, and afterward a faculty position at New York University. In 1964, he became a member of the Physics Department the University of Connecticut where he spent the next 40 years. His research and talents ultimately brought him many distinctions and honors. He leaves behind his wife, Lottie, and two sons, Paul and Geoffrey. A graveside service will be held at the Storrs Cemetery on North Eagleville Road, Storrs, on Friday at 11 a.m. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested to the University of Connecticut Foundation, 2390 Alumni Dr., Unit 3206, Storrs, CT. 06269. Donations should be directed to the Endowment for Physics Research and Graduate Education, in honor of Professor Kurt Haller. Arrangements through the Potter Funeral Home, Willimantic.
