Lawrence H. Gendler

Lawrence Herman Gendler, 96, of Unionville, beloved husband of the late Lila (Marks) Gendler for 67 years, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2023. Born and raised in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Clement and Rebecca (Goldberg) Gendler, moving to Unionville in 2001. Lawrence served in the US Navy during WWII. Following his service, he was a successful wedding photographer. With a natural entrepreneurial spirit, he also owned several drycleaners in NY, including Cleanorama and Lawrence Drycleaners. Billiards was his passion, which he enjoyed playing with his wife, Lila. At the age of ninety he was inducted into the New England Billard Hall of Fame, playing regularly at Shooter's in Southington, where he was also a licensed instructor teaching children and adults the nuances of pool.

He is survived by his son, Dr. Robert Gendler of Avon; five beloved grandchildren Mindi, Craig, and Harlee Kaplan; and Gianna and James Gendler; and three special great grandchildren Sara Kaplan, Adriana Damiani, and Gabriella Damiani. In addition to his wife and parents, Lawrence is predeceased by his daughter, Susan Kaplan; and two brothers, Samuel Gendler, MD and Paul Gendler, PhD. Family and friends are invited to his funeral service Wednesday, November 8, 2023, 11:00 AM at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon. A visitation will be held prior from 10:30 – 11:00 AM at the funeral home. After services family and friends are invited to Dr. Gendler's home for remembrances and lunch. Burial services will be Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Sharon Gardens Cemetery, 65 Security Plan Section, 273 Lakeview Avenue, Valhalla, NY.
