Leo Cianciolo Obituary

CIANCIOLO, Leo John Leo John Cianciolo, 84, of Torrington, the loving husband of Gloria (Cracco) Cianciolo for 52 years passed away Wednesday (December 3, 2008). He was born in Torrington on April 9, 1924, son of the late Martin and Antonina (Balsamo) Cianciolo. He was a graduate of Torrington High School, Class of 1941. He was a proud Veteran of the US Navy, having served as a Motor Machines Mate 3rd Class during World War II. Leo retired in 1981 after working for M. Cianciolo Wholesale Bananas for many years. Leo was well known amongst his family and friends for his wealth of knowledge in the areas of geography and history, all acquired from his insatiable interest in reading. Along with this love of history, Leo was an avid fisherman. Besides his loving wife, Gloria, Leo leaves his children: Paul Cianciolo and his wife Lisa of Harwinton, Thomas Cianciolo and his wife Cheryl of New Hartford, Corinne Kravetz and her husband Mark of Simsbury, and Christopher Cianciolo and his wife Virginia of Torrington. Leo also leaves behind 13 grandchildren who will dearly miss their Grandpa: Daniel, Matthew, Steven, Thomas G., Simon, Emily, Eric, Olivia, Sarah, Wilson, Anthony, Derek and Kimberly. In addition, Leo leaves his brother Fabian Cianciolo of Torrington and a sister Gloria North of Bloomfield. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 6, at 10:30 a.m. from The LaPorta-Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT to St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Saturday morning, December 6, from 9-10:30 a.m. at The LaPorta-Cook Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Leo's memory may be made to the Memorial and Honor Program, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942. Aunt Gloria, Paul, Tom, Corrine & Chris -

I'm so very sorry to hear of Uncle Leo's passing. He was a very kind and loving man. I'll always remember coming over to your house when I was little and spending time with you. I have many fond memories. My thoughts, prayers and hugs are with you all during this very difficult time. May God heal your hearts and keep you.
