Lillian Call Obituary

CALL, Lillian A. Lillian A. Call, retired partner of BDO Seidman, died November 29 at Hartford Hospital. She was 90. Born in Salem, NH to Norman and Ada (Messiah) Call, she was an avid skier and basketball player throughout her school-aged years, and an active member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. During World War II, Ms. Call served at Portsmouth Navy Yard as a transportation officer. She graduated from Bentley School of Accounting and Finance (Bentley College) in 1960 and remained a generous supporter. Ms. Call rose in her profession to become one of the first women named partner of a Boston Big-Five accounting firm. In 1983, she retired from the public accounting profession to the home she shared with her sister Esther (deceased) in Bedford, NH. A personal mentor and professional coach, she will be remembered by her partners and clients for her self-sacrificing professionalism. Ms. Call is survived by her sister Elsie Grover, of Glastonbury, with whom she lived since 2004, and by her sister-in-law Mrs. Frederick (Florence) Call, Topsham, ME. She was predeceased by her sister Esther and brothers Norman and Frederick. She will be fondly remembered by nieces and nephews for her tireless and unconditional support, her enchanting social graces, and for having been the model of a modern woman who burned the midnight oil above the glass ceiling. A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Lillian A. Call will be held at Trinity Covenant Church, Manchester, on Friday, December 5, at 4:30 p.m., with a reception preceding at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be sent to the Memorial Fund of Trinity Covenant Church, Manchester, CT. Dear Elsie and family,

Although I only knew Lillian a few years I found her kindness inspiring. She loved life and I have wonderful memories of our trip to Topsham, Maine.
God bless,
Pam
