Linda HORN Obituary

Eldest daughter of the late Betty Fairweather & Ernest Moses Essex passed away February 28, 2023 in Phoenix, AZ. Born September 13, 1940, Linda grew up in W. Hartford, attending William Hall HS (c/o '58). Linda met the love of her life, Leonard Horn, when she moved to New York to study at Pratt. Married April 9, 1960, they were blessed with 4 kids: "the 4 J's".

Linda made a career of her love for travel. From weekend jaunts to cruises and cultural tours, travel filled her heart as she loved learning about culture, history, and people. Fellow travelers became instant friends because of her gracious and loving nature. She collected travel magazines and brochures "just in case" she needed to plan a trip. And she tried to achieve a Guinness book world record for most ever Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes entered. Her love of the arts filled her life, whether painting, attending symphonies, enjoying plays, or volunteering at the theatre. Her later-in-life-love of American Indian art and music blossomed after she moved to Arizona.

Following Len's death, Linda was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. In March 2020, she chose to move into an assisted living facility, just one weekend before Covid shutdown. We were blessed as she was well taken care of by Robson Reserve staff who provided support as the disease progressed.

This kind, gentle soul, and proud Mayflower descendent, was committed to family and loved spending time with her kids, grandkids, her siblings and cousins, and friends like the Bayside gang, majong ladies, and Sunday coffee group. She had her dad's quick wit and giggled sheepishly when embarrassed. We will miss how when we were with mom, we laughed so hard, it hurt. Oh, what we would give to laugh like that again.

Linda's beautiful life will be remembered by her children John (Katie) Horn, Joanie Burke, Janet (David) Comaty, and Jill (Tim) Lynch; her grandchildren Becky, Jenny (Harrison), and Kyle Horn; Conner, Shaylyn (Dave Hall), Payton, and Ethan Burke; Emily and Ian Lynch; her 3 great-granddaughters Kayden Victor, and twins Charley and Parker Hall.

She is survived by her brother Alan (Charmaine) Essex, and sisters Betty Jane (Russ) Gobeille, Pamela Lyons, and Diane (Rudy) Talts, as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who she loved with all her heart.

A celebration of life will be held at the United Methodist Church of Hartford at 1pm on Saturday, July 29, 2023.

Linda is my eldest sister who I love with all my heart. I miss her. I wish I was able to be there at the church with everyone. I am currently in the UK, some distance away. Difficult to find the words to express how I feel. My heart and prayers go out to you all there. A lifetime of memories. Many happy times.

I first got to know Linda when we were classmates in 1946/1947 at the old East School on Whiting Lane and continued on through Hall High School. She was simply one of the nicest people I have known. Condolences to her family.

It's been a long time but back in the '50's at the United Methodist Church of Hartford, we knew Linda as a wonderful and delightful teen. Her father, Ernie sang in choir with us and he was so proud of her. Linda, rest in peace. Harold and Sandra Ann Craig
