Lisa Herskowitz Obituary

Lisa Herskowitz, 57, passed earlier this month after a valiant battle with cancer. She was a graduate of Pomperaug High School of Southbury, CT (C/O '82), Duke University (C/O '86), and most proudly, the University of Connecticut School of Law (C/O '93), where she finished first in her class. Lisa was also awarded numerous awards of high prestige for her creative writing and work with law. Within her decorated law career, Lisa clerked for the State of Connecticut Supreme Court and went on to become a Senior Assistant State's Attorney. In her personal life, Lisa was always tending to her garden, baking family recipes, vacationing in the beautiful Topsail Island of North Carolina, and devoting countless hours to her various passion projects including the writing of several (nonpublished) books. Lisa is survived by her adoring father, Jerald, brother and sister Jeri and Sean, 'special' nieces, Alanna and Isabella, their parents Liz and Bertrum Askew, and her beloved fur babies, Texan Cooper and Dawn. She is also survived by her aunts Gail, Nancy, and Janet and many cousins. She is predeceased by her mother, Carol, and additional beloved fur babies, Jesse, Pede, and Juniper Lee. There will be no public ceremony. Contributions may be made to any animal shelter/rescue in her name.

I was saddened to hear of Lisa´s passing and I am very sorry for your loss. Lisa was a colleague who was well-respected and incredibly smart. She worked very hard and was passionate to make sure that Justice was done always. The precedents that she helped shape through her legal advocacy will have an impact on generations to come. God bless your family at this difficult time.

My condolences to you all, Lisa was a lovely person and I'm grateful for opportunity of getting to know her. I worked with her in Appellate here at the OCSA and a pleasure to have been able to work with her.

What an amazing person and remarkable life Lisa had. I was lucky enough to remember her from being neighbors in apartments in Milford. I just happened to glimpse her name in Courant, and thought I would reach out. We did not keep in touch, but I do remember her from long ago, being funny and bold. It appears she made a difference in many lives. I hope your happy memories will help you through this difficult time.
