Lois Snelgrove Obituary

Lois died peacefully on September 12th in Greensboro, North Carolina in the loving presence of her husband Alan and her children Judy Phillips of Toronto, Steven of Maryland, Helen Quinn of New Jersey, and Geoffrey of North Carolina. She was 91. Lois was born in Morell, Prince Edward Island, Canada on December 14th, 1927. She attended the Royal Victoria Hospital School of Nursing in Montreal, graduating with her RN in 1950. She followed her older brother Dr. Lloyd S Cox to Hartford, Connecticut where she began a distinguished and lengthy career as a RN at Hartford Hospital. She worked in Neurosurgery and the OR until her retirement in 1991. She was greatly admired as both a professional and a person. Her co-workers delighted in her generous provision of baked goods for their enjoyment over the years and she was often consulted in her South Windsor neighborhood for her medical expertise. Lois resided briefly in Manchester, then Vernon and ultimately spent most of her life in South Windsor, Connecticut. She was an expert seamstress and her girls were always dressed in her creative finery. As well, she kept all the family's homes and the church in beautiful custom drapery. Lois married Alan in 1954 after meeting him on a blind date. They shared 65 wonderful years together resulting in 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren. She happily became an American but her heart resided in her native Canada and in particular PEI. She was a long- term member of Wapping Community Church and she served as a volunteer in many capacities. Most notable were her roles as chair of the Church Sanctuary Re-decorating Committee, and as a Volunteer for the Refugee Committee managing their healthcare. She leaves her husband Alan, and her children Judy (Larry), Steven (Joyce Giacomuzzi), Helen (Jim) Quinn, and Geoffrey (Polly Wilmer). Left to cherish the memory of their very special grandmother are Andrew and Emily Phillips, Scott Snelgrove, Evan and Shane Quinn, Caitlin (Peyton) Ford and Ian, Brendan and Kelsey Snelgrove. Also, the great children Hayden, Carter and Jackson Ford. A private, Family memorial will take place in December in Greensboro, NC. At a later date, a service of remembrance will be held in South Windsor, CT. Donations In her memory may be made to the Snelgrove Family Fund c/o Wapping Community Church 1790 Ellington Rd. South Windsor, CT. 07074 Charitable # 2265 or Hartford Hospital.

To the Snelgrove Family,
Lois was a very talented, accomplished lady, wonderful mother and wife and enjoyed life. I would read her nursing school texts when I babysat the four of you. My deepest sympathy on her passing. Take care.

Deepest sympathy to Geoff and the family as you grieve the passing of your Mom. I could tell from the obituary that she was a very accomplished lady throughout her life and I saw the fine man she raised as I worked with Geoff years ago. Her talents brought comfort and beauty to those around her. My mother was also born in December 1927, though she passed in 2017, just a week shy of 90. I've walked the path you're now walking so wish you God's comfort and strength to help you each day going forward.
