Loretta Chassie Obituary

Loretta Marie (Legassie) Chassie, (Meme) 97, died on March 21, 2015 at Evergreen Healthcare in Stafford Springs, Ct.. Born March 9, 1918 in Caribou, Maine, daughter of the late William and Anastasie (Belanger) Legassie. She was predeceased by her husband Edwin Chassie, son Richard Chassie, daughter Brenda Duprey, daughter-in-law Kathy Chassie, brothers Joseph, Stanley and Gerard, sisters Leona and Gertrude. She is survived by her son Gerald Chassie and wife Judy of Franklin, Ma., daughter Judy Chamberlain and husband Clifford of Washburn, Me., son Ronald Chassie of LaPine, Oregon, daughter Linda Anderson and husband Gary of Windsor, Ct.,and son Duane Chassie and wife Gloria of Wildwood, Fla., sisters Hortense Lajoie and Theresa Dostie of Augusta, Me. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. Loretta worked at the Birdseye plant in Caribou, Me. on 2nd shift for many years, then came home to tirelessly raise their 7 children. As far as we know she still holds the record for the most barrels of potatoes picked in 1 day in Aroostook County, Maine. The family moved to Hartford, Ct. in 1963 where Loretta worked for Arrow Hart & Higganum until her retirement. She was an incredible mother, meme, wife, friend, there was not a person that knew mom that did not love her. Holidays were wonderful at mom's, she was such an amazing cook, everything she made was delicious especially her home made bread, baked beans and pies. She loved to sew, knit and crochet and her family has many beautiful quilts and afghans to treasure. Every Sunday at church mom donated at least 5 pairs of mittens she had knitted. She collected porcelain dolls and had over 100 in her collection. Mom, you are so loved by us all and will never be forgotten, you left us so many beautiful memories. The family would like to extend our gratitude to the staff of Evergreen Healthcare for the wonderful care they gave our mother especially Sam Haesler, Mary West and Kathy Smola. Her family will receive relatives and friends at Rose Hill Funeral Home 580 Elm St. Rocky Hill on April 10th from 5-7 p.m. The funeral services will be a Mass of Christian Burial on April 11th at 11:00 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church in Wethersfield. Gifts in her memory may be sent to a charity of one's choice.
