Loretta W. HICKS

HICKS, Loretta W. Loretta Weldon Hicks, 92, of Bloomfield, CT died on December 16, 2010 at Hartford Hospital after a short illness. Daughter of the late Rev. Lawrence Weldon and the late Gladys Long Weldon, Loretta was born on February 4, 1918 in Jersey City, NJ. Loretta was a loving, friendly and helpful person who took great pleasure in doing for others. Her husband, Chester A. Hicks and her daughter, Eva Hicks Mack, predeceased her. Loretta attended Jersey City schools and graduated from Dickinson HS as a seamstress. She worked in alterations at fashionable stores throughout her life. She married Chester A. Hicks, a Georgian, on June 25, 1939. They had two daughters, Eleathea and Eva, and two sons, Chester, Jr. and Gawain. During the 1970's she and her son, Gawain, moved to Houston, TX where she worked at Saks Fifth Avenue until her retirement. She enjoyed life in Texas until her health required her to move to Pennsylvania with her daughter, Eva. After Eva's early demise, Loretta moved to Connecticut to be near her son, Chester where she lived independently until her passing. Her family and friends will sadly miss her humor, ever-ready smile and selflessness. She is survived by her children, Eleathea Watson of Apex, NC, Chester A. Hicks (Marcia) of Bloomfield, CT, Gawain Hicks of Houston, TX, her nephew, Silas Campbell (Linda) of NJ; grandchildren, Lyle Watson, Sr. of NJ, Aricia Watson of NC, Allison Hicks of CT; great grandchildren, Lyle, Jr. and Zunyda Watson, and Jazmyn Moore of NJ. Other relatives and many loving friends are left to mourn her. The family will have a private gathering with burial at Cypress Hills Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.
