Lucia Giardina Obituary



Lucia (Girgenti) Giardina, 103, of Siracusa, Italy, beloved wife of the late Angelo Giardina, died Saturday, (April 12, 2014) at her residence. She was born in Middletown on June 17, 1910, daughter of the late Santo and Carmela (Fazzino) Girgenti. Lucia is survived by her five sons: Carl (Bruno) of Palm Springs, CA, Santo and Armando of Siracusa, Italy, Aldo and wife Jean and Pasquale (Pat) and wife Nella, of Middletown. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Angelo P. Giardina of Andover, Eileen McNeil of Wethersfield, Lucy Gennuso of Middletown, David Giardina of New York City, Lisa Castillo of Florida, and Lucy Giardina and Giuliana Giardina of Siracusa, Italy; five great-grandchildren, Steven and Monica Gennuso, Kris Truini, Ryan McNeil and Kara Castillo. In addition, she is also survived by a brother Ludovico Girgenti of Melilli, Italy, and a sister Lina Salafia of Middletown. She was predeceased by a grandson Angelo N. Giardina and by two brothers, Barbarino Girgenti and Salvatore Girgenti. Lucia lived her long life with devotion, love and compassion for her family, spending long intervals of time both in the United States and in Italy, but, wherever she happened to be, she always left her heart in the United States, her native land, the country she admired and loved very much. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 28, 2014, 7 p.m. at St. Pius X Church in Middletown.
