Lucy M. Hope

Lucy (Maffucci) Hope, 84, of Newington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2019. Lucy was a wonderful woman that will always be missed, and was loved and cherished by all who knew her. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph J. Hope and celebrated 64 years of marital bliss. Born in Dunmore, PA, daughter of the late Florido and Vincenza (Fischetti) Maffucci, she was a longtime Newington resident and a devoted parishioner of St. Mary's Church. She was an employee of Traveler's Insurance Company and USF&G for many years until her retirement. A loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother; she leaves her children, Dr. Douglas M. Hope and his wife Cathy of Avon, John P. Hope and his wife Karen of Dallas, TX and Kathleen H. Burns and her husband Doug of Rocky Hill. She was incredibly proud of all her grandchildren; Kate, Jonathan, Connor, Shelly, Kristen and Kevin. She was predeceased by her first grandson Shawn, whom she always kept close to her heart. She recently became a great grandmother to Dempsey, whom gave her great joy. She also leaves her brother-in-law Raymond Hope, Jr. and his wife Carmella of Houston, TX, her sisters-in-law, Sister Jeanne Hope of West Hartford and Marie Dunn of Middletown, many close nieces and nephews, and a few special friends. Those that knew her would call her a living angel. She was kind, loving, positive, optimistic and always made everyone around her feel so special. She was known for her Italian hospitality, opening her arms and heart to all those she met. She loved puzzles, golfing, cooking and baking, but especially loved to force food on her loved ones. Her life and funeral will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 18th at 9:00 a.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Newington. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, June 17th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Newington Memorial.
