SCHUBERT, Ludwig "Larry" Jr.
Ludwig "Larry" Schubert, Jr., 70, of Berlin, widower of Shannon (Scott) Schubert, passed away Thursday (October 18, 2012) at The Hospital of Central CT in New Britain. Born in New Britain, son of the late Ludwig Schubert Sr. and Sophie (Ziolkowski) Schubert, he has lived in Berlin since 1958. A graduate of Berlin High School, Class of 1960, Larry was a Police Captain in the Berlin Police Department and served the community for over 38 years until retiring in 2008. Among many accomplishments, Larry helped lead the Berlin Police Departments first Accreditation Process and helped bring the DARE program to Berlin. He enjoyed going to local schools dressed as "McGruff the Crime Dog". He was also a Black Belt in Karate. Surviving are two sons, Brian Schubert and his wife Katie of Alexandria, VA; and Mark Schubert of Berlin; two daughters, Debra Shemeth and her husband Shaun of Kensington, and Linda Munson and her husband Michael also of Kensington; a step son, Anthony "Sandy" Pollicita and his wife Brandy of Tampa, FL; two sisters-in-law, Barbara and Jill Schubert; 13 beloved grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Shannon, he was predeceased by two brothers, William and Richard Schubert; and two sisters, Patricia Doyle and Barbara Safranski.
Funeral services will be held Monday 10 a.m. at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. Burial will follow in Maple Cemetery, Berlin. Calling hours are Sunday 6 to 8 p.m. at Carlson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Berlin DARE Program, 240 Kensington Rd., Berlin, CT 06037. I am so sorry about the passing of Larry. I remember him well from the many community projects we worked on together. I consider it an honor and a privilege to have known him.

Dear Brian and family,
