Marianna Zalewska

1934 - 2013

Marianna Zalewska, 79, of Wethersfield, beloved wife of the late Ignacy Zalewski, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, (December 21, 2013) at New Britain General Hospital. Born in Poland on March 14, 1934, daughter of the late Wladyslaw and Bronislawa (Filipkowski) Karwowski, she had spent most of her life in Szlasy, Poland before immigrating to Hartford. Marianna moved to the South End of Hartford then to Wethersfield where she had lived for the last 25 years. She had worked at Nielsen Tool & Die and at Society for Savings in Hartford before her retirement. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, especially traditional Polish dishes and spending time with her family and friends. Marianna was a parishioner of SS. Cyril & Methodius Church in Hartford and was also a member of the Rosary Society. She leaves two sons, Stanislaw Zalewski of Middletown and Henry Zalewski of Wethersfield and Royal Oak, MI; a daughter, Bozena Gorowski and her husband Edward of Wethersfield; two sisters, Zofia Lenkiewicz and Helena Bero and her husband Jerzy all of Poland; and three grandchildren, Krystyna Koruni and her husband Julian, Andrew Gorowski, and Christopher Zalewski. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Jerzy and Antoni Karwowski. Family and friends may gather on Friday, December 27, 9:15 a.m., at the Waszkelewicz South Green Memorial Home, 43 Wethersfield Ave., Hartford, followed by a Funeral Mass, 10 a.m., at SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, Hartford. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Her family will receive friends on Thursday, December 26, 5-8 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 6 p.m., at the Waszkelewicz South Green Memorial Home, Hartford.
