Marilyn Hott Obituary

Marilyn Green Hott, z"l, age 94, of West Hartford, died peacefully, Wednesday, October 11, 2023. Born in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Esther (Sarachek) Green. She was the beloved wife, for 63 years, of the late Irving Hott, z"l. She was the loving and devoted mother of Estha Blachman and her husband Edward of Arlington, MA, and Beth Hott and her husband Matthew Hinckley of Foster, RI; cherished mother-in-law of Debra Halbstein of Springfield, MA; loving grandmother of: Chany Baron and her husband Eli, Eliezer Hott and his wife Chaya, Yosef Hott and his wife Tovah, Raska Shaw and her husband Efraim, Anna and Leah Blachman, and Sarah Hinckley. She also leaves her ten cherished great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Meir Hott, z"l.

Mrs. Hott had a long and diverse career in education; she was a middle school English teacher, an elementary school librarian, a 5th grade teacher, an elementary school guidance counselor, and eventually a faculty member at Central Connecticut State University. For three years Marilyn was chair of the newly formed Department of Teacher Education. She was awarded the Distinguished Service Award in 1990, nominated by fellow members of the Department of Teacher Education for her leadership in the successful transition in the reorganization of departments.

Along with her husband Irving she loved travel and the arts, and together they journeyed all over the world and attended countless music, theater, and dance performances. The Hott family is deeply grateful to her circle of devoted household helpers Sueli, Mariana, and Mayara, who brightened her days. A funeral service will be held at Temple Sinai, 41 West Hartford Road, Newington, with Rabbi Jeffrey Bennett officiating, Sunday, October 15 at noon. Interment will follow in the Temple Sinai Cemetery. Shiva will be observed Sunday October 15 from 3-5pm at Marilyn's home. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to Doctors Without Borders, Planned Parenthood, or Animal Friends of Connecticut. May her memory be a source of strength and a blessing.

Mimi and I send our deepest sympathy to the Hott family. Marilyn was a treasured colleague and friend for many years . She represented the very best of what CCSU is. But most of all we saw how much she loved her family and this passion for family and people made her a very special person.
