Martin A. Lobel

Martin Arthur Lobel of West Hartford passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 7. He was the beloved husband of Selma Lobel, father of Meri, Sam, and Josh, grandfather to Anastasia, Thea, Molly and Nathan, father-in-law to Laura Wiener, uncle, and friend. He recently celebrated his 100th birthday on June 1, having lived life to the fullest. His career as a hard-working engineer extended into his passion for flying and his flawless sense of direction. He knew a song for every moment and just when to drop a line of humor--and he always had room for ice cream. He saw the world change in many ways, and carried with him his signature mustache and love of his wife and family through it all. We will miss having him inspire us to both ever greater exploration and creative endeavors. Marty was a proud alumnus of Stevens Institute of Technology who began his career working for the City of New York. A supporter of peace, he was a Seabee stationed in the Pacific in the US Navy. The family welcomes relatives and friends from 2-5 on Saturday and Sunday at home. A memorial will be held in the fall. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Marty's name to the Connecticut Volunteer Services for the Blind and Handicapped or any other cause that honors his memory.
