Mary Benoit Obituary
Mary Benoit passed away on February 14, 2018 in Storrs, CT after a long battle with Alzheimer's & COPD with her family, roommate & MCNR staff by her side. Mary was born 3/27/28 in Troy, Maine to Clyde Folsom & Florence Hillman. She was the widow of George Benoit. They were married in Pittsfield, Maine in 1947. Mary was predeceased by her siblings Leo, Neil, Richard, Patricia & Eileen & her granddog Hershey. She leaves her sister Joan Haskell of Maine & many nieces & nephews. She also leaves her loving children, Denise Gorka, Sharon Kozin (Gary), Georgina Benoit (Moose Baylock), her grandson Mark Gorka & her great grandchildren Bijan & Leila Rezai. Her family meant everything to her, and she to them. Mary was proud of the diploma she earned at Coventry HS in her 40's. She worked many jobs, but enjoyed selling real estate the most. She was the original house-flipper. She loved camping, gambling & playing cards & games. Mary was a caring woman whose home was always open to people who needed one. Her family moved many times from Maine to CT. They had cottages in Maine where they spent many summers with extended family. Words cannot express our heartfelt gratitude for ALL of the staff at MCNR & the great care they provided. Patty "Pattycakes" Theriault & her "Mare" were perfect roommates. We also thank Hartford HC Hospice who helped comfort Mary during her last weeks. The family requests no flowers, instead donations to the Alzheimer's Assoc or Mansfield Ctr for Nursing & Rehab Rec Fund in her name.
