Mary McCormick Obituary

Mary Ann (Hanlon) McCormick, 85, beloved wife of John P. McCormick, died peacefully at home Thursday, November 1, 2018 in the presence of her family. Born in Clayton, MO, Mary Ann attended Catholic schools and St. Louis University before going to work for McDonnell Aircraft Corp, where she met her future husband. After marrying in 1957, the couple lived briefly on Long Island, NY and then moved to Connecticut where they raised their five daughters in Vernon and Glastonbury. Mary Ann worked for several companies, retiring as an executive secretary from United Technologies Corp. She enjoyed her work family, making it a point to make any co-workers from overseas feel at home. But her considerable energy and drive was focused on her immediate and extended family and close friends. Stylish and possessed of a keen sense of humor and fun, Mary Ann had the metabolism and activity level of a hummingbird. A talented amateur interior decorator and musical theater enthusiast, she spent many years of her retirement volunteering for the House of Bread soup kitchen in Hartford and for the Village for Families and Children, chairing its thrift shop in Glastonbury. Besides her husband of 61 years, Mary Ann is survived by her children, Cynthia Hibbert of Sandwich, MA and her fiance Brian Whicher; Karen Porcaro of Grantham, NH and her husband Steve Porcaro; Terri-Lynn McCormick of Boston, MA and her husband Jack Szostak; Lisa McCormick of Colchester, CT; and Mary Susan McCormick of Clemmons, North Carolina. She also leaves nine beloved grandchildren, Siobhan Prescott and her husband Michael Prescott of Glastonbury, CT; Cameron and Kathleen Porcaro of Florida; Brittany and Haley Porcaro of New Hampshire; Caroline Hibbert of Washington, D.C. and Patrick Hibbert of Boston, MA; and Aran and Eamon Szostak of Boston, MA. Mary Ann is also survived by her brother-in-law David McCormick of Hudson, New Hampshire, and sister-in-law Frances McCormick of Somerville, MA, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews to whom she was also devoted. Mary Ann was predeceased by her beloved brother, Donald E. Hanlon Jr. of Webster Groves, MO. A wake will be held from 3 to 6 p.m., Monday, November 5 at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, November 6 in St. Dunstan Church, 1345 Manchester Road, Glastonbury, CT with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
