Mary Meyerson Obituary

Mary May (Lipson) Meyerson, 91, of Bristol, widow of Samuel Meyerson, longtime pharmacist and owner of the Farmington Pharmacy in Bristol, died peacefully Friday (March 7, 2003) at Ingraham Manor. Mrs. Meyerson was born July 2, 1911 in New York, NY and was a daughter of the late Samuel and Sarah (Bussell) Lipson. A Bristol resident all of her life, she attended Bristol Schools and the New Britain Normal School, now Central Connecticut State University, and received a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Hartford. She taught for 43 years at Callen, Hubbell, and Patterson Schools in Bristol, prior to her retirement in 1974. She was a founding teacher of the Gifted Education Program in Bristol and was also an accomplished artist. Following her retirement, she enjoyed the company of a group of retired teachers who met regularly for fun and reminiscing. She was a life member of the Bristol Chapter of Hadassah, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Honors Teacher's Society, and a past president of the Bristol Educator's Association, and a member of the former Beth Israel Synagogue. Mrs. Meyerson is survived by her niece, Susan M. Cannon of Bristol; a great nephew, Justin G. Cannon of Bristol; and two great nieces, Rachelle L. Cannon of Alexandria, VA and Rebecca J. Cannon of Bristol; a cousin, Marie Heller of London, England; and several devoted friends in the Bristol area. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Ann L. Mack and Gertrude B. Lipson. A graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 11, 1 p.m., at Beth Israel Cemetery, Lake Ave., Bristol. Memorial donations may be made to the Bristol Hospital Development Foundation, Brewster Road, Bristol, CT 06010; or to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111-1593. Mary shared the same room at Ingraham Manor as my sister June. We both would like to extend our condolences to the family. Her friend Jeanne and I were with her when she died. We know she is at peace and has now joined her husband Sam.
