Matthew Carella Obituary

Matthew J. Carella, Sr., of Hartford, son of the late John and Josephine (DeGregorrio) Carella, a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, departed from this life Saturday, (June 30, 2001) with his wife and family beside him. He leaves his beloved wife, Helen (Curtin) Carella of 56 years. Matty retired from the restaurant business after many years of partnership with his late brother, Joseph Carella. Matty served his country in World War II, with the 5th Division of the 11th Infantry in Europe. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart Award. He was a member of the D.A.V. Association of America and a communicant of St. Augustine Church in Hartford. Besides his wife, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Matthew Jr. and Cheryl Carella; his daughter and son-in-law, Beverly Carella and Herve Russo and his daughter, Debra (Carella) Pistorio and was predeceased by her late husband, John Pistorio. He also leaves his cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Yvonne, Kimberly, Dawn, Cheryl; and great grandchildren, Janice, Chanell, Veronica, Joey, and Adrian. He was adored by all and will be sadly missed, but they will all hold fun-loving memories of Grandpa. Matty also leaves his brother, John Carella of Rocky Hill; three sisters, Eleanor Colangelo of Manchester, Lillian Guglielmo of Wethersfield and Mary Carbone of Hartford. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews, who are very special to him. The funeral will be held Tuesday, July 3, at 9:15 a.m., from the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Augustine Church, 10 Campfield Avenue, Hartford. Burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Friends may call at the funeral home TODAY, 5-8 p.m.
