I first heard of Matthew Melanson through my friend Bradley Noone who served with Matt in Central Asia. I know Brad through the Colorado-based groups Paradox Sports and Veterans Expeditions which have been doing outstanding work with veterans and adaptive athletes. Later I discovered he was the nephew of Blair Wlochowski who I know through the Connecticut climbing and outdoor-education community.
While I never met Matt, I am grateful for his proud service to our country. No doubt, he was a loyal friend to many. To Brad, Blair, Andrea and the rest of the Wlochowski and Melanson families, please know that you have my deepest sympathies and heartfelt best wishes in your time of grief.

Matt earned a special place in my heart when he walked into my CCD class at St Mary's so many years ago with that beautiful smile and heart of his. I loved watching him grow up and turn into a fine young man. He always had a bright smile and hello for me when ever our paths crossed. And he will always have own that special place in my heart. What a beautiful soul. My heart goes out to you all.

Matt was a close friend for many years. Always there at the drop of a hat if you asked, and always with that infectious grin. I don't know why he left so soon, or what plans the Lord has for him, but I can't wait for the day we meet again.
I pray all family and friends find the comfort needed to get past this tragedy.

At the end of a visit or a phone conversation Matt would say "I love you Auntie Lisa" and I would reply " I love you more my favorite Godson" Matt would laugh and say " that's because I'm your only God son" "yaa, that's because the Good Lord knew I couldn't handle two of you" and we would both laugh. Now I look back and realize...he was so special I only needed one. So many heartfelt prayers and thoughts are for Matty and his family.
