Michael LUISI Obituary





LUISI, Michael Thomas


Michael Thomas Luisi, was born in Bristol, CT to John and Rose Luisi on June 6th, 1925. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, nephew and uncle to his loving family. Michael was drafted in 1942 to the US Army, and served from Sept 1943 through July 1945. He served in World War II, in the European Theater including the Normandy, Brittany and Brest campaigns, in the 29th Division as an Infantryman. After being wounded on Aug. 26, 1944 at Port of Brest, France, he spent 1 year in the hospital. He was awarded commendations of Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and American and European Theater Operations Metals with one Service Star. He received an Honorable discharge. From 1945 to 1947, he worked at New Departure in Bristol, leaving to finish high school at Hartford Public High, completing 3 years of high school in 12 months, and graduating with full credits in March, 1947. He married Michelina Toporoso on February 7th, 1948. From March 1948 until May 1949, Michael worked as a Hand Sander at Seth Thomas Clock Company, and then started his own business, Bristol Office Machine Service, fixing typewriters - with an office in his home, from May 1949 until 1974. Michael worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 31 years from August 1952 until June 1983 as Machine Shop Foreman, taking voluntary retirement. He volunteered with Junior Achievement from 1980 to 1983. He worked at the US Post Office for several years before moving to Naples, Florida where he worked at the Ritz Carlton. His wife of 47 years passed in 1995. In August, 2009, he remarried Lucy Marotta. He enjoyed special times with family and friends, years spent with his dog Charlie and travel which included a trip to Italy with Lucy. Mike was known for his wonderful entertaining personality and his love of singing, reciting poetry and eating. Good times with "Mike" always included him singing a host of his favorite Italian songs, along with a good cup of Espresso and Sambucco. Michael was predeceased by his parents, his first wife "Mickey", a brother, Thomas Luise of Torrington and a brother-in-law Alfred (Bibby) Morrocco. He leaves behind his wife Lucy (Marotta) Luisi, two daughters, Rosanne Luisi of Collinsville, Diane Fisher and son-in law Jeffrey Fisher of Weaverville, NC, a son John Luisi, Sr. and wife Cheryl Luisi of Litchfield, two grandsons, John Luisi Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Torrington and Anthony Luisi and his wife Jaime of Harwinton, four great granddaughters; Ellie, Kali, Lily and Julia and one great grandson Ayden. He also leaves behind three sisters Esther Morrocco, Angie Czaplicki and Rosemary Beckwith, one brother James Luisi, and two brothers-in-law, Irwin Czaplicki and John Beckwith, three step-sons; Sebastian, Salvatore and Joseph Borderi and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, 11 AM at St. Anthony Church, Bristol. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. Relatives and friends may call at the Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol on Tuesday between 9 and 10:30 AM. Dear Aunt Lucy and all Luisi family members,
Our sincere sympathy on the loss of your beloved Mike. He will be forever in our hearts as a gentle, kind, caring and loving man. We will always remember the happy times spent with Mike serenading us with his beautiful Italian songs. We are grateful for his service to our country and know how proud he was of being a Veteran and a Purple Heart recipient. Rest easy now soldier, job well done! We will miss you.
