Michael Newton Obituary

Michael J. Newton, 40, of Bristol, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, after his courageous battle with lymphoma. He was the beloved husband of Cara (Bellagamba) Newton. Born in New Britain, son of Michael and Gail Newton of Bristol, Mike was a lifelong Bristol resident. He graduated from Bristol Eastern High School and was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was formerly employed by the CT Department of Corrections at the Garner Correctional Institution in Newtown, and was currently employed by the City of Bristol. He loved the outdoors, especially when spending time boating and fishing on Long Island Sound. Mike enjoyed golfing and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Dallas Cowboys. His gentle Christian spirit was evident in so many ways. He was always the first to reach out to help others, while never expecting anything in return. He focused on family coming together, especially in times of need. His kind and generous nature and his diligent work ethic made him a joy to be around. Mike was a devoted and loving "Daddy", and leaves his son William Newton, and two daughters, Emma Newton and Isabella Castrogiavanni. He was a great big brother to Joshua D. Newton of Bristol and the late Ashley Elizabeth Newton. He also leaves his grandmother Barbara Newton of Plainville, in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends and co-workers. All are invited to a Celebration of his Life on Tuesday, October 30, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethel Christian Church, 750 Stevens St., Bristol, with Rev. Howard Renker officiating. He will be laid to rest with military honors in West Cemetery, Plainville. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, October 29, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol. Memorial donations may be made to "The Newton Children Scholarship Fund", c/o Webster Bank, 797 Pine St., Forestville, CT 06010. Thoughts and prayers for Mike's family. He was always ready to help with anything we needed at the police department. He once told me I reminded him of his grandmother!! After everyone stopped laughing he told me it was because I was sweet and kind---just like his grandmother....We will miss you Mike.
