Michael Perry Obituary

Michael F. Perry, Sr., 45, of Windsor Locks, beloved husband for 21 years of Vanessa A. (Smith) Perry, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 27, 2022. Born in Hartford on June 19, 1977, son of the late Henry Jerome Perry and Grace Elizabeth Bout-Perry, he was raised in Windsor Locks and was a graduate of Windsor Locks High School, Class of 1997. After high school, Michael continued his education at Briarwood College where he received Associates Degrees in Criminal Justice and Mortuary Science. Michael worked as a funeral director for over 20 years and was well-known for his compassion and commitment to the families he served. In September 2019, he and his wife Vanessa purchased D'Agata-Perry Granite & Bronze in Windsor starting a family business that included his sister-in-law, Morgan and later his son, MJ. Michael loved providing families with excellent service and lasting memorials for their loved ones in cemeteries throughout Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. His interest in criminal justice led him to serve on the Police Commission for the Town of Windsor Locks for the last six years, a position which he enjoyed. A lifelong Windsor Locks resident, Michael was a member of the Windsor Locks Lions Club and he also coached Little League Baseball for many years while his three children were growing up. A devout Catholic throughout his life, Michael was a parishioner of Mary, Gate of Heaven Parish – St. Mary's Church and he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Riverside Council #26 in Windsor Locks. For many years, he served as the sexton of St. Mary's Cemetery in Windsor Locks assisting many of his fellow parishioners after the loss of a loved one. In his spare time, Michael enjoyed snowboarding, riding his new Harley-Davidson Street Glide, and cooking for his family and friends. Michael was always well-dressed, meticulous about his appearance, and kind to everyone he met. At every family party or get-together Michael was the life of the party. He loved singing, was a terrific dancer, and usually was the funniest guy in the room. In high school, Michael met the love of his life, Vanessa Smith and the young couple started dating on March 31, 1997. Michael and Vanessa attended their high school proms and were inseparable. They married on August 3, 2001, and their union brought three children whom Michael cherished, Michael Jr. "MJ", Summer, and Johnathan. Michael's central focus in his life was his family and couldn't tell them enough how much he loved them and was proud of them. He leaves his loving wife, Vanessa A. Perry; three children, Michael F. "MJ" Perry, Jr., Summer Ruby Perry, and Johnathan Jerome Perry all of Windsor Locks; a brother, Curtis Barber and his wife Latress Walker-Barber of East Hartford; his paternal grandmother, Ruby Perry of Hartford; his father and mother-in-law, Michael and Diane Smith of Windsor Locks; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Veronica Martins of Windsor Locks, John Smith, Sr. and his wife Morgan of Windsor, and Michael Smith, Jr. and Amber of Canada; a grandmother-in-law, Ann Moneta-Cooney of Windsor Locks; nine nieces and nephews, Kuhron Walker, Curtis Barber, III, and Ayden Barber all of East Hartford, Ava Martins and Ana Martins of Windsor Locks, John Smith, Jr. and Nicholas Smith of Windsor, and Skyler and Royal of Canada; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his aunt and uncle who raised him from a young age, Rita and Rene Bout. His family will receive friends on Sunday, October 30, 4-7 p.m., at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Monday, October 31, 1 p.m., at Mary, Gate of Heaven Parish – St. Mary Church, 42 Spring St., Windsor Locks. Burial will be private in Northwood Cemetery, Windsor. Dear Vanessa & Family
I met Michael 7 years ago when my Dad passed away and he handled my Dads services. Never had I met such a amazing person. He truly made it a celebration of life. I remember at the end of the service he surprised us all with playing my Dads favorite Neil Diamond song at the cemetery which was so perfect. He was a beautiful person. I am truly sorry for your loss.

Michael entered my family's life about 43 years ago and from that point on he was known as brother. He also has an extremely large family of aunts and cousins that are grieving. Rita and Rene Bout raised this phenomonial man which everyone else appreciates his words and actions. This is for you Michael (keeping my nickname for you in my memory)
Your actions were always kind
A generous hand and an active mind
Anxious to please and loath to offend
A loving brother and faithful friend
We´ll all miss you very much

He´s present in a lot of memories from when I was younger, when I would go to work with my dad. I remember knowing he was funny even if I was too little to appreciate a good sense of humor. I´ll remember him with a smile. Keeping you all in my thoughts.

Michael entered my life when he purchased D'Agata Granite. By way of his monument shop we were in in contact with each other almost daily. Running into each other in surrounding cemeteries he always made sure we had a visit before moving on. No mater what I had planed in my busy day when we got together it always set me back 45, 60, 90 minutes. I morn him and will miss him deeply. My most sincere condolence to you, MJ, and to Michael's entire family, your loss must seem incomprehensible. He entered my life 3 years ago and in that short time I gained a friend who I will always cherish.
