Minnivel Higgins Obituary

Minnivel W. Higgins, 84, of Windsor, beloved wife for 63 years of Herbert Higgins, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Morant Bay, Jamaica, West Indies on August 24, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Cherriana (McPherson) Walker. Minnivel married her husband, Herbert on May 8, 1957 and then moved to England where she trained as a nurse. The young couple returned to Jamaica and then migrated to the United States in 1968. They settled in the Hartford area where they raised their three children. Minnivel worked as Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Hartford Hospital in the maternity ward for 25 years until her retirement in 1993. She loved working in the nursery and helping new mothers care for their children. She and her husband moved from Bloomfield to Plantation, FL in the early 1990's where they enjoyed many years together before returning to Connecticut four years ago to be closer to their children. Minnivel was always an active member of her church, Prospect Bible Chapel in Hartford and Bethel Gospel Chapel in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Over the years, she taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, served on the Beautification Committee, and assisted in the kitchen for church events. We write on behalf of Aunt Daisy’s brother, Neville Walker, who went home to be with the Lord several years ago. Our condolences to Uncle Higgy. On behalf of Neville's widow Marjorie Walker, son Clinton Walker and his family, son Collin Walker and his family, daughter Carlene Walker and her family and daughter Cavell Walker please know that our prayers and thoughts are with your family at this time. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-15 says “Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.” I can just imagine Aunt Daisy being the presence of Jesus her first morning in heaven. In seeing the first sunrise in heaven with Him. In being reunited with the family and friends who has gone before her. May those left behind be comforted that she is in no more suffering and pain. May you cherish the wonderful memories of loving and knowing her, and as you grieve her home-going take each day one at a time and cherish each other. May God’s awesome Peace and Comfort be with you all. Neville Walker’s family (Jamaica and Florida)

Dear Uncle Higgins and Family,
Collin, Emily and I were very sorry to hear about Aunt Daisy's passing. I loved her very much and will miss her. I will miss our talks and will never forget her kindness to me and love for Emily. I know she will be missed not only by her children and grandkids, whom she loved dearly and was so proud of, but by her church family as well. I count myself blessed to have been loved by her. She was a special lady and I will always remember my visits with her and Uncle Higgins with a smile. Wish I was there to pay my final respects.

We are so very sorry to learn of Minnivel's passing, and want to offer our sincerest condolences to you all at this sad time.

We are so sorry that, although we were neighbors, we never got to know her. She sounds like a very special and accomplished lady.
