Nancy Buggy Obituary

May 16, 1935 – April 12, 2023

Nancy J. Buggy, 87, of Simsbury, left us to join her husband and best friend, Dick, on April 12, 2023. They are once again inseparable, after spending nearly fifty years together before Dick went ahead to prepare a place for her.

Nancy was born in Chicago, IL. She met Dick while both were working for the Hartford Insurance Company, and they married in 1955. Thanks to Dick's job with The Hartford, they lived in Des Moines, IA, Omaha, NE, Mt. Laurel, NJ, and then once again in Chicago before moving to Simsbury in 1973.

Nancy worked in the Admissions Office at the University of Hartford for twenty years before retiring. She loved to travel, and especially enjoyed her winters in Palm Desert, CA. She was an avid bridge player right to the end. She was also a prolific volunteer, helping the Simsbury Women's Club, the McLean Auxiliary Gift Shop, the Second Chance Shop, and many other clubs and organizations. After Dick passed away, she assembled a group of volunteers to visit nursing home residents who did not have regular visitors. In 2019, Nancy received a Hometown Heroes award from the Town of Simsbury.

Nancy dearly loved her family. She was a devoted mother to Lynn (David) Reynolds, Rick (Theresa), Julie (Tony) Corlette and Glenn (Shannon), a loving grandmother to Heather, Sean, Julie-Lynn, Adam, Anna, Peter, Jocelyn, Kaela, Conner, Mia and Keira, and was over the moon about her great grandchildren, Keegan, Carter, Zoey, Ivan, Cassidy and Mason. She also leaves many nieces and nephews, and several "adopted" family members.

Nancy was predeceased by her husband, Dick, her parents, Glenn and Lillian, her dear friend Laurie, her sisters-in-law, Jeane and Betty, her brother-in-law John, and her "brother" Carl.

Being an only child, friends were very important to Nancy. She has close friends all over the country, including her dear friend, Betty, in Omaha. Each and every one was extremely important to her.

A special thanks to all of Nancy's doctors, to the medical staff at the Smilow Cancer Hospital at St. Francis, and to Cheryl, who helped Nancy stay at home until her passing, something she very much wanted.

Nancy was a force to be reckoned with. She knew what she wanted and somehow always got it. She lived her life to the fullest, and is ready for a new adventure.

A memorial service will be held at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church on Wescott Road in Simsbury at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2023. In lieu of flowers, Nancy asked that you consider making a donation to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Simsbury, or to a charity of your choice.
