Norman "Notty" Glasband

GLASBAND, Norman "Notty" Norman "Notty" Glasband, of West Hartford, died Thursday (October 22, 2009). He was born July 14, 1920, to Albert and Rose Glasband in Hartford. He was the devoted husband of his childhood sweetheart, the late Thelma Polman Glasband for over 65 years. Norman was a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army based at Maxwell Field in Alabama, where he served as Still Photography Officer. After his service in the Army, he returned to Connecticut where he sold cars for Grody Chevrolet and became a photographer for Joseph Jay Studios. He later joined his father, Al and his brother Hy at Callaghan Paper Box Company in Hartford until his retirement in 1981. His passion for photography was realized when he became a Hartford Whaler photographer along with his son-in-law, Jerry and a house photographer at Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam. Norman was an accomplished photographer by hobby, having won many awards including an international competition. Norman leaves his daughters: Ellen Margolis and her husband Jerry of Farmington, and Nadine Shapiro of Marlton, NJ and her friend Stan Rogosin of Baltimore, MD. He also leaves his grandchildren: Rachel Margolis of Providence, RI, Scott Margolis and his wife Kimberly of West Hartford, Amy Shapiro of Lawrenceville, NJ, and Melissa Shapiro Lapid and her husband Richard of Haddonfield, NJ; his great-grandchildren: Sadie and Benjamin Margolis, and Noah and Evan Lapid. Norman was predeceased by his brother Hyman Glasband. The family wishes to thank the staff of 3 North at the Hebrew Home & Hospital, as well as the staff of the entire hospital for their love and care of both Norman and Thelma during their years as residents. They would also like to thank Normanâ's devoted friend, Dave Vogel for his friendship, care and concern over the last several years. Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 25, at 9 a.m. in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Interment will follow in Beth El Temple Cemetery, Avon. A memorial period will be observed Sunday following the interment through Tuesday evening at the home of his daughter, Ellen Margolis, 5 Chimney Hill Dr., Farmington.
