NORMAN HALE Obituary

Hale, Norman Bradford
Age 88, of Peabody, formerly of Lexington, and Somerville, Massachusetts, on June 23, 2013. Devoted husband for 63 years of Audrey Prince Hale, predeceased by his brother, Robert F. Hale. Survived by sisters-in-law Janice Hale of Concord, Janet Murphy of Wakefield, and Vera Hase of Peru, Maine; and brothers-in-law John B. Prince and his wife Lillian Prince of Pasadena, California, and Paul X. Murphy of Wakefield, dear uncle to 14 nieces and nephews, and many, many great nieces and nephews and eight great, great nieces and nephews. Norman and his wife Audrey hosted international students from Tufts University for 27 years and he welcomed all of them as family and enjoyed getting to know them and their families from all around the world. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Motor Machinist Mate 2/c and plank owner aboard the U.S.S. McConnell, DE 163 and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, four bronze battle stars and Victory medal. He also served aboard the U.S.S. John Paul Jones , DD 932 in the l950's and was known as a Tin Can Sailor. Norman retired from Lincoln Laboratory, M.I.T. in 1991 and resided at Brooksby Village in Peabody since 2001. He was a life member of the Train Collectors Association (TCA) and enjoyed collecting and running a large collection of Lionel Tin Plate model trains in his home in Lexington, Massachusetts, and at Brooksby Village. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the Brooksby Village Chapel, Brooksby Village Drive, Peabody, MA. Everyone is welcome with small reception following also at Brooksby Village. Donations in Norman's memory may be made to the Brooksby Village Residents Care Fund at 105 Brooksby Village Drive, Peabody, MA. 01960.
