Owen F. Daley

1962 - 2018

Owen F. Daley, 56, of Ellington and Weymouth, MA, passed away at home after a lengthy illness on October 8, 2018 while surrounded by those who loved him most. Born in Quincy, MA on July 28, 1962, Owen was the son of Henry Daley and the late Rosemary (Tansey) Daley. He graduated from Weymouth High School and Bridgewater State College earning a Bachelor of Science degree. Owen's career in information technology and finance afforded him success at BFDS and most recently, OPTUM Healthcare where he worked as a Systems Analyst until retirement. Owen never married until reconnecting with his former junior high school sweetheart, Lynn (Bythrow) Friedman. Having lived in the Boston area for most of his life, Owen decided to relocate to Ellington, CT to be with Lynn and often commented on the rural beauty surrounding their home. The two married in Hull, MA in July of 2014 and spent their short five years loving life and making memories. Owen and Lynn enjoyed attending concerts and plays as well as sharing quiet nights at home playing Scrabble and watching the sunset; more than anything, the two enjoyed just being in each other's company. Prior to his diagnosis, the couple spent time traveling and visited Quebec, Canada, Provincetown, MA, and upstate New York. As a young man, Owen's love of animals led him to work at the race tracks caring for the horses and helping them to cool down after racing. He was very close with his two cats and dog Harley, who passed away last year. This die-hard Bruins fan was a unique individual who was certified as a rescue scuba diver and hunted ghosts as a founding member of the South Shore Paranormal Society in Massachusetts. Music played a huge role in his life and in addition to playing piano, guitar, drums, mandolin, and oboe, Owen composed music and was a former member of the band "Faded Halo". Although he is gone from our sight, his song is still heard and will continue to play in the hearts of many. Owen leaves his devoted wife, Lynn Ann Daley of Ellington; his father, Henry Daley and his fiancé, Judith Goranson; two step-sons, Adam Friedman and Aaron Friedman and his wife Sivling; a sister, Suzanne Daley and a brother, Sean Daley and his wife Barbara; a nephew, Gideon Daley and a niece, Erin Daley. He was predeceased by his step-mother, Florence "Donna" Daley. Owen's family wishes to thank the caring staff at St. Francis, especially Brittany. Her laughter and loving care brought joy to Owen's frequent chemo sessions. Owen's family will receive friends on Sunday, October 14, 2018 from 1 pm – 4 pm at Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd., Vernon.
