P. Richard "Dick" Matz

P. Richard "Dick" Matz, 70, of Park Street, Reading, Lower Alsace Twp., PA formerly of West Hartford, died Monday (October 21, 2002) at 9:30 a.m. at Reading Hospital and Medical Center West Reading, PA where he was one week. He was born in Lower Alsace Township, Berks County, PA. He was the son of late Paul W. Matz and the late Miriam E. (Englebright). Mr. Matz was employed in the Media Department of Beaumont, Heller and Sperling in Reading for several years before becoming the executive asst. to the President of Kelsey-Farguson Brick Company for several years in South Windsor. He then became an insurance salesman for Met-Life in West Hartford, for many years after which he became the manager of Gingiss Formal Wear in West Hartford. Lately he was employed as a part-time clerk for Krueger Automotive in Reiffton, PA since 1996 until becoming ill. He was in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Matz was a graduate of Mt. Penn High School in 1950. He was also a graduate of Penn State University in 1954 with a Degree in Advertising/Communications. He was also a 50 year member of the Penn State Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta as a Golden Owl Member. Mr. Matz is survived by three sons, R. Kevin Matz of Ridgefield, Christopher L. Matz of Huntersville, NC, Timothy A. Matz of Holly Hill, NC; three daughters, Julie Marie Matz of Holliswood, NY, Kathleen Anne (Matz) Helie of Newport, NH. Aimee Louise (Matz) Tiger of Ridgefield; 12 grandchildren; a brother, Donald L. Matz of Diamond Bar, CA. He was predeceased by a son, Shawn M. Matz in 1987. Viewing will be Friday at the Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. from 10-11 a.m. Services are Friday, October 25, at 11 a.m. at Lutz Funeral Home Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Ave., Reading, PA. Interment will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton, PA. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Am. Lung Assoc of PA, 25 Stevens Rd., West Lawn, PA 19609 or the Am.
