Patricia Hanbury Obituary

Patricia passed peacefully at age 92, having resided in Newington for 71 years. Pat was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 17, 1930, and died on September 19, 2022. She was predeceased by her parents, the Rev. Dr. Barton Bovee and Georgetta Buschman Bovee, her husband of 47 years, Alan E. Hanbury Sr, and her brother Dr. Barton W. Bovee. Pat is survived by her three sons, Robert D. Hanbury and his wife Cornelia Hanbury of Bradenton, FL, Alan E. Hanbury Jr. and his wife Debra Hanbury, of Newington and Richard A. Hanbury and his wife Margaret Hanbury, of Newington, 6 grandchildren Peter Hanbury of Incline Village, NV, Christopher Hanbury of Islamorada, FL, Tracy Hanbury of Boston, MA, Timothy Hanbury of West Hartford, CT, Ian Hanbury of Vail, CO, and Alexandra Hanbury of Pittsburgh, PA, and 6 great grandchildren. Pat attended New Britain public schools, graduating from New Britain HS in 1947. She went on to study Elementary Education at New Britain Teachers' College (CCSU) graduating in 1954 with a Bachelors degree. She began her teaching career at Southeast (Ruth Chafee) School in Newington in 1961, retiring in 1992 after serving as a 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade teacher during her 30 year career in public school education. Pat was a founding member of the Newington United Methodist Church, serving in many of its leadership positions such as Church School teacher/superintendent, Church Lay Leader, Church Board, Newington Interfaith Housing Commission, and the United Methodist Women. Pat was an avid gardener, small boat sailer, painter, reader and world traveler, taking her final trip at the age of 90. She spent much of her retirement researching her family genealogy, culminating in her acceptance for membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution. Pat loved eating the fruits and vegetables from her gardens and created many tasty treats with her blueberries and raspberries. Pat loved her family lake-house in the Berkshires, where she enjoyed sailing her catamaran, reading piles of books, and painting colorful landscapes for over 80 summers, all while sharing "The Cottage" with her parents, her brother and his family, her husband, children, and grandchildren. The family would like to thank the Nurses and Staff at Hughes Health for their exceptional care of Patricia, and a special thanks to Julie LaPointe for her exceptional dedication and loving care during the Covid Lockdown at Middlewoods of Newington. No calling hours - there will be a Memorial held at the Newington United Methodist Church at a later date TBD. Memorial donations may be made to the Newington United Methodist Church - Memorial Fund.
