Patricia A. Sweeney

Patricia A. (Petrella) Sweeney, 72, of West Hartford, died peacefully in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014. She was the beloved wife of Peter J. Sweeney for 44 wonderful years. Born and raised in Hartford, daughter of the late John Petrella, Sr. and Helen (Adinolfi) Petrella, she was a resident of West Hartford for many years where she raised her family. She retired from the Hartford Courant after 30 years of employment and was previously employed by Royal Typewriter. Pat was an avid Bingo player and enjoyed baking sweets to share with family and friends. She and Pete enjoyed many summers in Hampton Beach with their children. A loving mother and grandmother, devoted to her family, she leaves two sons, Peter Sweeney and his wife Jan, and Darren Sweeney, all of West Hartford, and Daniel Urlage, who was like a son; three grandchildren, Amanda, Peter, and Emma. She also leaves a sister Diane Healy of West Bridgewater, MA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Paul and Peg Sweeney of Sharon, Mark and Elizabeth Sweeney of Guilford, David and Peg Sweeney of Dallas, TX, and Jo-Anne Lodovico of Bristol; many nieces and nephews, including her niece Elizabeth Cook of TN; and her favorite grand-dog Bentley. She was pre-deceased by her brother John Petrella, Jr., and brothers-in-law John Sweeney and Edmund "Eddie" Lodovico. Her family would like to express its deepest appreciation for the remarkable care provided to Pat by Dr. Todd Alekshun, Dr. Ronald Szabo and the staff at the Hartford Hospital Infusion Center, as well as the exceptional caregivers in her home. Her funeral service will begin on Monday, Jan. 5, at 10:30 a.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Brigid, West Hartford. She will be laid to rest in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Newington Memorial.
