Patsy DeMarco Obituary

Patsy Anthony DeMarco, age 78, entered into eternal rest on March 8, 2018, in Rocky Hill, Connecticut. Pat is survived by his three children, Erin Gilchrest and her husband Michael of Newington, Leah Calafiore and her husband Sal of Glastonbury and Timothy DeMarco and his wife Kim of Newington; his seven beloved grandchildren, Nicholas and Alex Calafiore, Hayley, Luke and Cassidy Gilchrest and Zachary and Hannah DeMarco; as well as his former wife and friend, Joan McBride DeMarco of Newington, Connecticut. Pat was born on June 20, 1939 to the late Lorenzo and Mary DeMarco in White Plains, New York. As a young child the family moved to Hartford, CT. As part of a close knit Italian American family, he grew up in the Village Street neighborhood. He attended St. Anthony's School and Harford Public High School. Pat is one of four children and is pre-deceased by his parents and his brother, Nicholas DeMarco. He is remembered fondly by his loving sisters Concetta Micek of Sarasota, Florida and Laura DeMarco of Rocky Hill, Connecticut. After graduating from Hartford Public High school, Pat worked at the Wiremold Company before managing and owning his own restaurant, Patsy's in Old Saybrook. He spent his final years working with his son-in-law and grandsons at Coachlight Motors in East Windsor. Pat always believed strongly in his Catholic faith, volunteering at St. Anthony's in Hartford and St. John's Church in Old Saybrook. He also strongly believed in his country, serving proudly in the Army National Guard. Mostly, he believed in the bond of family and friendship. There was nothing more important and made him prouder than bragging about and spending time with his children and seven beautiful grandchildren. He especially enjoyed Sunday dinners with his family, cards with the boys, and spending quality time with his grandchildren. His family and friends will always remember him as a loving, caring, generous man who always thought of others before himself. Pat was a role model, friend, and shining light to anyone that ever met him. Anyone who knew Pat will miss him deeply, but we know he is without pain and in a better place. Calling hours will be at the Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Turnpike , Wethersfield on Tuesday, March 13th from 4-7PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church, 494 New Britain Ave, Hartford on Wednesday, March 14th at 10 A.M. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. To the children of Patsy DeMarco......I just heard of your Dad's passing,
I am so sorry for your loss. I also heard that your uncle Nick passed awhile back. I was friends with your Dad and uncle back in the 1960's.
I was happy to have known both of them, they will be missed. Also, please pass along my condolences to your Mom, as well as Joanne.

Thank you, Sincerely......Bill Tinkler

Patsy was my first boss as an adult , I was hired to be a waitress at Patsy's. I not only found new friends , but we became family, and Patsy was dad. Never will I forget the times I irritated Patsy, he would grab my cheeks and say ooohh you make me so mad, many a time over the years I so miss that and probably could have used it , hehe. Love you Patsy and thank you.

From my young age I always felt a bond with Uncle Pat. I remember hating the fact that he called me Molly; because I thought he didn't know my name. Then i thought my parents were going to change my name. As I got older and realized neither to be true I knew he just loved me! I always admired the relationship he and Auntie Joan were able to maintain. I will miss seeing him at family parties.

RIP Uncle Pat

Pat was such a wonderful presence in my life growing up. He shaped a lot of memories for Tim, myself, and all of our EH friends growing up. Always provided an environment and atmosphere full of love, kindness, adventure, support and fun. He had so much pride in our life-long friendships and support for one another. Pat always greeted me with a huge hug and a kiss on the cheek and made me feel great every time we saw each other.

These memories and more will stay with me forever...

One of a kind in so many ways...

Rest in peace, Pat.

Love,
Steve, Laura, Megan and Katelyn Ashe

My condolences to the entire DeMarco family. It is always difficult to lose a family member but even more difficult when that person was at the heart of the family.
I was heartbroken to read about Pat's passing. My connection to Pat goes back to the Wiremold days when he worked there with my Dad, Uncles and Grandfather. When my brothers and I became summer Wiremold employees, Pat was there to welcome us, support and teach us. It made work fun too!
Over the years I looked forward to the DeMarco Christmas group picture. I was looking forward to catching up with Pat for lunch this fall when I came East.
To the family: I know he will be greatly missed. He was a special Dad, GrandDad and key family member. To friends: his spirit will live on as we recall the good times spent together.

My dad was one of a kind. He was loyal to the people he loved, kind to everyone and always gentleman. Having him for a father was a blessing. He loved us unconditionally. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he bragged to everyone about them daily. He got to know everyone of them and had a special bond with each. They all loved him dearly and are old enough to remember him forever. It's a sad time for all of us but we are grateful to have had this man in our lives. He left us too soon. Dad- you are going to be missed and we will always remember the great guy that you were. We all love you. I hope you are dancing again in heaven. I love you❤

Dear DeMarco Family,
Words cannot express the sadness I am feeling after hearing of your dear fathers passing. Patsy has been and will forever be one of the most important people in my fathers life. Patsy has been a devoted friend and up until several months ago was still making his Wednesday trip to see my father at the Atrium. We have spoken often and our thanks to your father is beyond words. Your dad has been a devoted friend to our father and that will never be forgotten. We loved your dad and will miss him. My father would be heartbroken but we are thankful that Patsy has continued to be part of his life. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. May he rest in peace.

I had the joyful experience of working with Patsy at Sage Allen in Wethersfield for a short lived but not forgotten time in the 70s. We were all working 2nd jobs there, for a little extra cash. Stopped into the restaurant whenever I could and will never forget his smile and warm heart. Rest in peace.
