Paul Hinman Obituary

Paul L. Hinman, 77, of Plainville, formerly of Burlington, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Sunday, July 2, 2023 at the Hospital of Central CT New Britain General Campus. He was the devoted and loving husband to Victoria (Grouten) Hinman for 27 years.

Paul was born on March 10, 1946 at Bristol Hospital son to the late Howard and Julia (Kundra) Hinman. He grew up in Burlington, attended local schools and graduated from Lewis Mills High School Class of 1964. Paul proudly served our country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged. Together, Paul and Vicki settled in Plainville and have been residing in the same home for over 35 years, where many cherished memories were shared over the years. A perfectionist and master tinkerer, Paul maintained their home and garage where he spent many hours repairing and restoring a plethora of things and friends were always welcome to drop by for a beer. A classic car enthusiast, Paul acquired several different cars through the years and attended many car shows where he was awarded countless trophies wherever he brought his "babies." A man of his word and dedication to keeping everything in order, his cars were always meticulously cleaned and he took great care of them along with his beard and his head of hair that was always well up-kept.

Paul was the co-owner of Hinman & Sons Lumber Mill in Burlington for many years, taking great pride in his family name, following behind the longevity of generations of family members who ran and operated the company. Founded in 1830, the company continues to serve the community of Burlington and beyond today. In addition, Paul owned and operated Forest Products Service for many years, meeting many acquaintances and business associates along the way. Paul was a lover of the outdoors, a man's-man, and an extremely talented craftsman. He was well-respected by all who met him and was a genuine, loyal friend. Paul leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and determination, and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his wife of 27 years, Victoria (Grouten) Hinman, Paul leaves behind his daughter, Lori Schaffrick; his son, Christopher Hinman; his grandchildren, Madison and Kassidy Schaffrick, and Nickolas Hinman and his mother, Michelle Brown; his brother, Michael Hinman and his wife, Debra; his sister, Mary Willis and her husband, John; his loyal best buddy, Jim Kavanaugh; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and a large circle of friends. Paul was predeceased by his brother, H. Peter Hinman.

Family and friends are welcome to gather on Tuesday, July 11 from 5 to 7 PM at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St., Plainville. Words of remembrance followed by full military honors will begin at 7 PM. Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 12 at 10 AM at Center Cemetery in Burlington. Donations in memory of Paul can be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (stjude.org) or to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), 424 E. 92nd St, New York, NY 10128-6804 (aspca.org).
