Peter Larkin Obituary

Mr. Peter J. Larkin died peacefully surrounded by his family after a 7 month battle with leukemia on Monday, June 26, 2017 in Westerly, RI at the age of 67. Peter is survived by his wife, Antonina (Nina) R. Larkin; children, Thomas (TJ) Larkin of Nashville, TN and Elizabeth F. Larkin of Atlanta, GA; and siblings, Jamie Larkin of Washington, MA, Mary Ellen Palmer of Dalton, MA and Alice Everhart of Pittsfield, MA. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Barry Larkin and Shaun Larkin, both formerly of Dalton, MA. Peter was born in Dalton, MA to Edward P. Larkin and Elizabeth P. Larkin. He married Nina Rondinelli in 1971. Peter began working for United Parcel Service at the age of 18 as an operations report clerk. He continued his career with UPS for 38 years working in the corporate office and internationally. Over their 46 years or marriage, the couple welcomed 2 children and lived in various cities (Wethersfield, CT; Monroe, CT; Alpharetta, GA; Hutchinson Island, FL and Westerly, RI). His children remember him as a wonderful father who encouraged them to pursue their goals and made them believe they could do or be anything they wanted to. Peter was the life of the party and often could be found harmonizing along to Irish traditional tunes (or any tune for that matter) at the top of his lungs. He was a very generous individual who helped anyone who needed a hand at any time. He was an active member of the Westerly Yacht Club, the Irish Coastal Club, served on the Wethersfield Democratic Town Committee for 20 years including as their Treasurer and also served a two-year term as Treasurer for the Town of Wethersfield. Visitation will be from 4-7pm on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly, RI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 10am at St. Clare's Church, Crandall Ave., in Westerly. There is no procession from the funeral home to church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Peter's life. Burial will occur at a later date in Wethersfield, CT. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society at 3 International Drive, Suite 200, Rye Brook, NY 10573 or www.lls.org. The family would like to thank Tufts Medical Center and Beacon Hospice for their efforts and amazing care. For online condolences please visit gaffneydolanfuneralhome.com

Nina and Family,

I am sorry for this late posting, as I only found out last Christmas Card Cycle.

Peter Larkin was one of the finest individuals I have met during my lifetime. Bright, ethical, incisive (saw through nonsense and called it out), was always there for others. Dusty dry sense of humor will be sorely missed. He was a sterling example of a partner, co-worker, and friend.

Nina and family,

Mary and I are heartbroken to hear the news of Peter's passing. His gregarious personality made him a joy to be around whether talking politics, business or life.

May God hold Peter in the hollow of His hand.

Peter was so loved by his family. He was such a happy, giving man filled with love and always had a sparkle in his eye. One of my best childhood memories of Peter and the Larkin boys is listening to them playing their electric guitars on warm summer nights in our neighborhood on Oak Street and Warren Ave., falling asleep to Cinnamon Girl and other cool songs. Talking with Ed and MaryEllen over the years really showed me how beloved Peter was to the Larkin family.

Trish and I are saddened to hear of Peter's passing. I know you know how much he meant to me in my career in the early years but it was the genuine friendship we maintained through all the years and your travels that will last forever in me. You, TJ and Elizabeth are in our prayers. Michael

I met Peter and Nina many years ago. Peter was a professional and Christian mentor to my husband Andy at UPS. I loved meeting and spending time with them. I think of them often. I hoped and counted on visiting again. What a beautiful and amazing couple! I'm completely heart broken. God bless Nina and family at this most difficult time and in the months ahead. Rest In Peace Peter, a good and faithful servant.
