RUSSELL, Peter G.
Peter G. Russell, 86, of Bloomfield, died peacefully at Duncaster on Friday (October 25, 2013). He was born in Hartford and lived in West Hartford for most of his life. He attended West Middle School, Kingswood School and graduated from Exeter Academy in 1945. After beginning Yale University, he entered the service and was a Corporal at McCarther's headquarters during the occupation of Japan. After discharge, he hitch-hiked from the West coast back to Connecticut, returning to Yale graduating with the class of 1950. He earned a varsity letter in tennis from Yale and was a devoted and accomplished racquets competitor throughout his life. He married Elizabeth Stedman in 1956 and was happily married for 57 years. In 1950, he joined Aetna Life and Casualty. He earned a law degree from University of CT at night and was admitted to the Connecticut Bar. He continued with the Aetna rising to lead the Bond Investment Department where he retired from after 37 years. He served as chairman of the board of trustees of Kingswood-Oxford School and served on many other local boards including The Bushnell, The Connecticut Historical Society and Duncaster. In Addition, he was a Corporator of the Hartford Hospital. He was a member of the Hartford Golf Club, Madison Country Club and the Asylum Hill Congregational Church. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth; and four children, Laurie Title and her husband David, Morgan and his wife JoAnn, Peter and his wife Tracy, and Ginger Emme and her husband Siegfried. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren who he loved dearly. He is preceded in death by his sister Ruth.
Funeral service will be held Thursday October 31, at 11 a.m. at Asylum Hill Congregational Church 814 Asylum Ave Hartford, CT.
