Prince Kizer Obituary

Prince "Al" Kizer, Sr., 59, of Hartford, loving husband of Virginia Ann Kizer, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, (September 27, 2002) at Veteran's Memorial Hospital in West Haven. Born in Bamberg, SC to the late Willie Mae Kizer and Willie S. Kinard. He was educated in the New York Public School System. He was a proud veteran who served in the United States Army from 1961-1963 in the 82nd Airborne 1st Battalion 325th Brigade. Shortly after that he made his home in New Haven, where he began his missionary work, working in group homes for disturbed children. Around 1991 he relocated to Hartford where his mission was to aid the homeless, and so then volunteered at the South Park Inn Homeless Shelter for the past 11 years. He then became a volunteer for Community Partners in Action and later an employee. He also volunteered for the Department of Corrections Addiction Services. At his time of departure he was employed by the State of Connecticut Elderly Services. The most important mission of them all was to spread his words of experience, strength, hope, faith, and courage to alcoholics and drug addicts. He leaves to mourn his wife, Virginia Ann Kizer; three children, Prince A. Kizer, Jr. and wife Theressa of Columbia, SC, Angelina McNatt and Michael McNatt, both of New Haven; seven sisters and brothers, Gloria Taft of Leesburg, FL, Luberta Nixon, Daisy Chambers, Charles Nixon, Jr., Louis Nixon, Gregory Nixon, and Robert Nixon, all of New Haven. He also leaves to mourn, a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends. He was predeceased by his daughter, Tiajuana McNatt. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, October 3, 12 Noon, with calling hour 11 a.m., at the First Church of the Living God, 70 Whitney St., Hartford. Burial to follow in State Veteran Cemetery, Middletown. FUQUA Funeral Service, 94 Granby St., Bloomfield, has care of arrangements.

I will always say that I learned a lot from Al...He was a good man and he taught a lot of us kids things when he worked at High Meadows. He interacted with us kids from the neighborhood because he understood us and though he DID interact with us,we have him the highest respect because he demanded that. He had no problems out of us because we automatically respected him. He is and will always be missed. I know his son Prince Al,Jr. and I even told him that his father was a good man,and I meant that. ALL of us will cherish Al's memory and I am glad that I got the chance to tell him "thank you" before he left THIS world! God Bless and be with his family. (Apostle Allen E. Coleman,Jr.)~

Al Kizer...I have known Al since I was 11...I was a child in High Meadows and he was a staff...I found out that he lived in MY neighborhood...Ashmun Street Projects...he understood us young brothers and we had the highest respect for him. I am so glad that I had a chance to see him when I got older and told him "Thank You,Kize, you all that you imparted in my life"...He smiled at that...Great man...good man...when I met his son,Prince Al,Jr.,I told him he looked just like his Father...and he does...when people come into our lives, get what you have to get at THAT Season, because the Season doesn't repeat itself. I pray for the family,(some of which are also in MY family)...God Bless the family,in Jesus' Name...Amen. (Apostle Allen E. Coleman,Jr.~)
