MORSE, Raymond E.
Lieutenant Raymond E. Morse., Connecticut State Police (retired), died August 23, 2011 surrounded by his wife and three daughters. He was born in New Haven CT on April 1, 1942, son of the late Raymond F. and Cathleen Wilson Morse of Wallingford, CT. Lt. Morse started his life as an MP for the United States Army. He received a commendation from the US Army and Republic of Korea, for the rescue of an injured airman. He graduated from the University of New Haven with a degree in Law Enforcement, Police Science and Administration. In 1963, following his enlistment in the United States Army, he entered the Connecticut State Police. During a 26 year career, he served the state of Connecticut at many Troops and departments throughout the state. He received many commendations for his accomplishments. He and his dog Chief were heroes to many. He is best known as "Nutsy" by his colleagues while working undercover. Following his retirement from the Connecticut State Police, in 1989, Ray enjoyed traveling, golfing, fishing, making wine for friends and family, riding his motorcycle around New England with his good friends, riding his recumbent bike, and enjoying his seven grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Gladys Iida Morse; his daughter Nadine Morse, of Ivoryton, CT and her two children Brendan and Quinn Kobe; his daughter and son-in-law Barbara and James Vandehei, of Ivoryton, CT and their two children, Ryan and Monica; his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon (Boo) and Mark Erwin, of Ivoryton, CT and their three children, Mason, Logan and Paige. He is also survived by his older sister and brother in-law Geraldine and Robert Simeone, of Arlington, TX and their three sons. He is predeceased by his sister Margaret (Peggy) Cross.
Services will be private. We would like to extend a special thanks to the Essex Ambulance Assoc. and the First Responders of the Essex Fire Department. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Essex Ambulance Association, 149 Dennison Rd. Essex CT 06426 or Essex Fire Department Association Inc.
