ReJeanne GREENE Obituary

GREENE, ReJeanne M. (D'Arcy) ReJeanne M. "Jean" (D'Arcy) Greene, 84, of Manchester, beloved wife of the late Sherwood Tedford and the late John J. Greene, died Saturday May 1, 2010 at an area convalescent home. She was born May 12, 1925 in Lewiston, ME., daughter of the late John & Ezilda (Langlois) D'Arcy. Mrs. Greene was a communicant of St. Bartholomew Church and prior to her retirement she worked in food services for the Manchester School System. Left to mourn her, Jean leaves her two sons, John Greene and his wife Martha of Manchester, and Wayne Tedford and his wife Tommie of Bruceton, TN, two grandchildren, Jonathan Tedford and his wife Sharon of Hollow Rock, TN, and Joanna Crutcher and her husband Jonathan, of Bruceton, TN, a brother-in-Law, Louis Gauthier of Newington and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters, Rene D'Arcy, Julian D'Arcy, Normand D'Arcy, Mary Anne Gauthier and Rachel Lacasse. Jean was also predeceased by her best friend Dot Doherty of Manchester. She also leaves dear friends Debbie Symons, Maria Ellis and Vicki Bextel. Jean was an avid sports fan. She enjoyed watching the Lady Huskies. But her true love was anything New York – the Giants, Knicks, and the Rangers. And her beloved Yankees! (although she was quick to call for a new pitcher.) She took pride in the fact that she was born on the same day as the infamous Yogi Berra. After her husband John's death in 2000, Jean became involved in the Manchester Senior Center. She helped in the greenhouse for their annual plant sale and in the kitchen for the lunch program. She played bingo on a regular basis and was a mean domino player! Jean enjoyed taking their classes too – Tai Chi, belly dancing, candy making. Although oral cancer left her unable to eat since 1999, she would bake goodies to share with friends and family. She kept a vegetable garden for the same reason. Mom was a spitfire. She will be remembered for her keen wit and quick humor, her quiet strength and generous spirit, and her love and devotion to her family. The family would also like to thank the Radiology Department, the ICU and CCU areas at Manchester Memorial Hospital and the staff at Crestfield Rehabilitation Center for their care and compassion. Funeral services will be held Thursday May 6, 2010 at 9:15 a.m. at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Bartholomew Church, 45 Ludlow Rd., Manchester. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave. P.O. Box 1004, Meriden, CT 06450. To sign the online register book go to www.holmes-watkinsfuneralhomes.com.

Jean - From the moment I met you as my new next door neighbor, I knew we would become forever friends. You were always there for me - loving Kelby and Cinnamon and most of all being a great and special friend. You will be forever missed but I know you are at peace and home with John.

John, Martha, Wayne,Tommie Jonathan and Joanna,
Your Mom/Grandmother was a very special woman, strong, funny, loving and caring. I have many years of great memories and I will miss her so much. I know she is in a better place and hopefully your memories will get you through these difficult times.

Dearest Mom Greene, you showed us how to live strong and with honor. You demonstrated great faith and courage. You loved us with your great baking and beautiful candy making.
