Rich and I worked the night shift together at papa John's when he lived in north Carolina. We became good friends and eventually roommates. I knew rich on somewhat of a personal level and I am greatful to have had that experience with him. I admired the intensive love he had for his sons. He made me always wish that I could've had a dad like that growing up.
Rich seemed like he had to mask or downplay his pain and sadness. But regardless, he was a very tough and courageous man. I won't ever forget the day he left to move to Colorado for his sons. The emotional goodbye was a privilege to share with him. Simply because he wasn't usually one to express such sorrows. But he would have traveled to the ends of the earth to be with his kids. And I couldn't help but hold pure respect for that. I was 21 when I met Rich starting to learn the world on my own. Now, I am 30, and a mother of twins. Something I never thought would happen back then. I truly wish I could contact him and show him how I've grown up in all this time. Rich was an important person to me in that time of my life. I can only hope that I left as strong of an impression in his life as he did mine.

Though I hardly know you, I have wonderful memories of coming to the tire store & family working there. Bob Southergill is my uncle (he married mom's sister) so I always felt related to you guys! You will be in my prayers in the days & weeks ahead. Love & prayers, Nina Bergersen Tryon (Odd & Bernice middle child) May God's peace that passes our understanding surround you like a blanket. In Jesus' Name
