Robert Kalman Obituary

Robert Kalman, DPM, 67, of Windsor, beloved husband for 45 years of Barbara E. Sabinsky-Kalman, MD, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 26, 2021, at his home. Born in Brooklyn, NY on May 1, 1953, son of the late Jack and Marlene (Frinstein) Kalman, he was raised in Bayside, NY and a graduate of Cardozo High School. After high school, Rob continued his education at SUNY Stony Brook and later attended the New York College of Podiatric Medicine where he received his Doctorate. Rob moved to Memphis to complete his training as a Podiatric Surgeon while his wife attended medical school. Upon her graduation, the young couple moved to Connecticut where Rob started a practice in Windsor and Barbara completed her residency training. Rob's practice spanned 38 years serving generations of families in the Windsor area. Rob was well known not only for his love and compassion for his patients, but for his ability to do everything in his office from answering the phone, to evaluating patients, to performing surgery. He did it all. As a young boy, Rob became interested in the emerging technology of audio recording and videography. He and his brother would announce music and sports games and Rob's brilliant sense of humor, quick wit, and sarcasm enabled him to produce skits resulting in side splitting laughter for his family and friends. As technology became digital, Rob merged his love of music with creative video productions including the Beatles and other famous performers where he played the part of each performer to perfection, lip syncing their music in imaginary concert scenarios. Rob and his wife Barbara loved to travel and enjoy the beauty of nature especially wildlife and landscapes that were exquisitely captured in Rob's photography. Besides his wife, he leaves a brother, Mark Kalman and his wife Fran of Tappan NY; a nephew Benjamin Kalman; a niece, Carly Kalman; and many other relatives, friends and patients, who will remember Rob as a very gentle, kind, joyous soul who always tried to leave everyone smiling. His physical presence shall be missed, but his heart and generous spirit will never be forgotten. A private burial service was held at Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Glendale NY. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Carmon Windsor Funeral Home has care of the arrangements. For online condolences please visit, www.carmonfuneralhome.com.

I'm so sorry for your loss of Robert. Bob was a thought full and genial man who cared for his patients. He would perform his surgery at Ct. Surgery Center and I really enjoyed his company. May he rest in peace.
