Robert McQueeney Obituary

Father Robert L. McQueeney, 83, known to most as Fr. Bob, passed away Wednesday, (April 24, 2002) in Los Angeles, CA. In 1982, Fr. Robert McQueeney was ordained a priest of the Society of the Missionaries of the Holy Apostles. Prior to ordination, while still a deacon, Fr. Bob accepted a request to serve as the Spiritual Director of the Padre Pio Foundation of America. He continued in this capacity as a priest, and for 20 years led the Foundation as it helped spread devotion to the Capuchin Friar, Blessed Padre Pio, who will be canonized June 16, 2002. Fr. Bob also accepted and maintained additional assignments and activities during his 20 years of priesthood. He served Holy Apostles Seminary personally as a teaching head of the Homiletics' Dept. He also served the seminary in his capacity as Spiritual Director of the Padre Pio Foundation, and raised funds to support the seminary itself and to aid individual seminarians. He also served as the Local Animator of his religious community, the Missionaries of the Holy Apostles, and somehow managed to find time to teach English at Fairfield University. Fr. Bob leaves behind his three children, Kathleen, Bryan and Barbara who reside in California; six grandchildren; and his sister, Mary Louise Scully of Branford. Fr. Bob will be missed greatly by his family, friends, and benefactors of The Padre Pio Foundation of America. Funeral services will be held at The Queen of Apostles Chapel at Holy Apostles Seminary, 33 Prospect Hill Rd., Cromwell, Friday, May 3, 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the McQueeney family plot in St. Michael's Cemetery, 2205 Stratford Ave., Stratford. There will be no calling hours. Friends may visit the online guest book at www.cromwellfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Padre Pio Foundation of America, 463 Main St., Cromwell, 06416. The Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main St., Cromwell, is in charge of arrangements.
