Deacon Robert D. Newbery, 86, of Simsbury, beloved husband for 59 years of the late Alice (Bouchard) Newbery, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 4, 2021, in Simsbury. Born in Hartford on March 26, 1935, son of the late William and Grace (Dunn) Newbery, he was raised in Hartford and was a graduate of Hartford Public High School, Class of 1953. After high school, Bob started his career at The Aetna Insurance Company in Hartford where he met his future wife, Alice Bouchard. After their wedding, the young couple settled in Hartford and started a family and later moved to Windsor Locks in 1967. Bob's career transitioned into the banking industry where he served as the Assistant Treasurer at Charter Oak Bank & Trust and later at the Windsor Locks Federal Credit Union. Bob's faith led him to join the Permanent Deaconate of the Archdiocese of Hartford in his early 50's. He was ordained on June 21, 1986, and he served parishes for over 30 years including, St. Robert Bellarmine in Windsor Locks, St. Adalbert Church in Enfield, St. Stephen's Church in Hamden, St. Jerome Church in New Britain, and St. Therese Church in Granby. Bob was also a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. His passion for his faith led him to leave the banking industry and take a position at the Archdiocese of Hartford, Finance Office where he worked for over 12 years until his retirement. Bob continued to serve for many more years as a Deacon and most recently was a communicant of St. Bernard's Church in Tariffville and St. Therese Parish in Granby. He leaves a son, Raymond R. Newbery of Middletown; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by two infant sons, Joseph and Francis Newbery; and a brother, William Newbery. His family will receive friends on Sunday, October 10, 2-5 p.m., at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Monday, October 11, 11 a.m., at St. Therese Parish, 120 West Granby Rd., Granby. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Dear Raymond, I am so sorry for the loss of your dad. I worked with him (and your mom) for many years at The Chancery, and he was always gentle and kind. A wonderful example of faith. May he rest peacefully and in joy.

When I think of Bob and Alice.... I smile. A loving devoted couple who lived their lives by their faith. They always had a kind word and smile to share. I am happy they are together again.
