Robert Soule Obituary

Veteran, Policeman, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Hunter, Beekeeper, Fisherman, Friend, Christian, Robert Douglas Soule Sr. (92) wore a lot of hats in his lifetime. Loved by all who knew him, he hung up his fishing rod one last time and passed away peacefully 1/23/18 to join his beloved wife, Sue. Formerly of Colebrook, East Granby, and West Hartford, CT., Bennington, VT, Sunapee, Wilmot and Tilton NH, Bob had a good, long life. Bob and Sue were members of the East Granby Congregational Church. Born in an age way, way before the internet, Bob embraced new technology as it came his way. He was thrilled that he could buy golf balls for Matt anytime of the year and keep tabs on his grandchildren on social media. He leaves his family and friends feeling loved and with many wonderful memories. Bob was employed for 30 years by the West Hartford Police Department. Starting when handheld radios didn't exist, calling for backup meant going to the nearest house hoping they had a phone. A Navy veteran of WW2 serving in the Pacific Theater, Bob was a member of the VFW Post #15030. He was able to travel with New England Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. before his passing, a trip of a lifetime that he truly enjoyed. Bob is survived by: his brother William Soule of Enfield, Ct., his son, Robert D Soule Jr and wife Sandy of New Hartford Ct., their two children Robert D Soule III of Texas, Melissa (Soule) Kline and husband Nathan Kline of Ohio, his daughter Ginger Flanagan and husband Matt of Bantam Ct., her son Jameson Stone and wife Aidan of Manchester Ct., his son Walter H Soule and wife Eleanor of Riverton, Ct., his son Shreve Soule and wife Anne of North Sutton NH., their children Natalie, Elizabeth and Valerie, his niece Nan Klaus and her husband Ron of Ireland. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Sue, his brother, Herbert "Bud" Soule of Westfield Mass and sister, Muriel Shreve of West Hartford, Ct. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to NH State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway Rte. 3 Boscawen, NH 03303. There was a reason why his first email address began with "jellyworm"...go out and celebrate his life's passion and go fishing at your favorite spot and know that Bob would have loved to go with you and exchange stories of the best fishing holes and big whoppers caught in the past. The family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful, caring staff at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton. They truly loved Bob and cared for him like their own. Interment will take place at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen at a date convenient to the family.

It has been said that the measure of a man is in the lives he has touched. If that is so, Bob Soule will live in the memories of all who knew him.

To echo sentiment already shared, I too had the honor of working with Lt Soule during my stint in Traffic Division WHPD ___ a long time ago but a lasting fond memory. He was one of the best supervisors, a gentleman, with a ready smile ready to enjoy the moment. Warmest memories and prayers,

Condolences to the entire Soule family. As a teenager in the 70's, and working at my Dad's restaurant in Elmwood, the 3 Sons, I have fond memories of Officer Soule. Although many of the cops in WH stopped in, Officer Soule was different. Always making the effort to make small talk with this shy 16/17 year old. Although I only knew him briefly, 40 years ago, he left his mark on me, as I am sure he did on several others.

I had the good fortune and honor of serving under Bob Soule when he was the Lieutenant of the Traffic Division at the West Hartford Police Department. He was a pleasure to work with and one of the finest men I have ever known. Please except my deepest condolences.

Ginger and Bob:

We are so very sorry for your loss. Your dad was a great, warm, personable guy, we always loved seeing him and hearing his stories. But he is with your mom now and at peace. May God keep you in his Grace and give comfort in knowing that he lived a long and happy life.
