VERZIER, Robert "Bob" Alan Robert "Bob" Alan Verzier, 72 of Middletown, formerly of Farmville, NC, lost a brief battle with cancer on Sunday, (January 23, 2005) at Middlesex Hospice. He was born in Waterbury, on July 13, 1932, son of the late Harold and Helen (Wood) Verzier and was the devoted husband of Nancy Rogers Verzier for 36 years. Bob is the beloved father of Harold "Buddy" Wood Verzier of Savannah, GA and Patricia Elizabeth and her husband, Thomas Rayburn Wells of Zebulon, NC, and proud grandfather of his "shining light" Mason Alan Wells. He is also survived by two brothers, Carroll Nelson and Donald Lee Verzier of Florida; his brother and sister-in-laws, Ward and Martha Rogers of Connecticut and Wendy and Jake Breen of Massachusetts; many nieces, nephews and dear friends; and his loyal dog, Charlie Brown. Since his retirement and return to Connecticut, Bob's joy has been taking care of "his girls" Marion Rogers and Dorothy Whalen of Wethersfield, and Gladys Hansen of Manchester. Bob was the University of Connecticut's first bus driver and took great pleasure in driving the athletic teams and other student groups from 1968-1979. He continued to be an avid UConn Fan. After moving to North Carolina, Bob was a truck driver for Grady White Boats and then Spartan/Viking Express before retiring in 1997. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Church of Christ of Wethersfield, 250 Main St. on Saturday, January 29, at 3:30 p.m. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Middlesex Hospice, 28 Crescent St., Middletown, CT 06457. Oak Grove Cremation Service in care of arrangements.
