Robert Howard Wright

1951 - 2014

Robert Howard Wright, 63, of Middletown, passed away Sunday Nov. 2, after an extended illness. His beloved wife of 43 years, Judy Wright, was at his side. Rob was born on Feb. 8, 1951, in Bridgeport, CT. He was predeceased in death by his parents, John and Isabelle (Lawrie) Wright, and his favorite uncle, Earl Lawrie. He is survived by his wife and their son, Art Wright of Middletown and daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Christopher Philion of Ogden, UT. Also several nieces and nephews, including Ed Donnelly of Norwalk, CT, Godson Dan Montroy of Charlestown, NH, cousins Barbara Woehrle and Margie Smith of Shelton, CT, and extended family in Maine and South Carolina. Rob Grew up in Fairfield, CT and was known throughout the region as a standout amateur bowler. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and returned home to become an auto mechanic. He later moved into aviation maintenance and worked at several airports across Connecticut. A lifelong Yankees fan, he also loved NASCAR and spent several years on the pit crew of friends' modified stock car racing team. His knowledge and love of sports lives on in his children, both accomplished athletes. Rob loved Mopar muscle cars and enjoyed going to car shows around New England. He relaxed by traveling to Vermont whenever possible, spending time with family and taking their dogs, Jake and Jack, to the shore. His family would like to express special appreciation for Brian and Carol Whalen of Danbury, Ct; Ed and Clara Donnelly of Norwalk, CT; and Charles, Barbara and Alisha DiBenedetto of Middletown for their love and support. Also, Rob's family thanks the staff at Wadsworth Glen Healthcare in Middletown. It takes special people to care so kindly for others. The funeral service will be held Friday (Nov. 14th) at 6:30 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver Street, Middletown. Friends may call prior to the service on Friday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
