Roger Maynard Obituary

Roger Brooks Maynard, 72, of Andover, CT crossed over on June 3, 2016 after challenging cancer with bravery and humor. Minutes after he was gone, the sun broke through the clouds and we knew he was at peace and still with us. Roger encompassed all that was good in life - humble, intelligent, caring, loving, kind, and generous. He was a talented photographer, seeing beauty many of us would have missed. Through his lens he brought nature to life. Always one for making people see things in a different way, he would also take photographs of friends and family and transform them into images that would keep us laughing for hours. He could also fix anything that needed fixing, so his many talents were far reaching. While he was taking his last breath, he was surrounded by family, including his soul mate and wife, Suzanne. There's was a love that went far and deep and one that they felt grateful for every day. Their blended family amazed and delighted people. They were always here for Roger and never wavered in their love for him. They include Roger's first love, Kelly Zeitlin; his children Jason, Benjamin, Lisa and Stephanie; his grandchildren Kayla, Nicole, RJ, Travis, Ava, Ciara, Noah, and Janelle; his great grandchildren Russell and Paityn; and his brother Gene. All of you held a special place in his heart. Roger's two-year journey not only included his family - his close friends also kept him strong and brought joy and love to his heart. We are so grateful to them all for being part of our lives. And we could not forget the wonderful people who cared for Roger - his oncologist, Dr. Joseph Sinning, and the wonderful people at the DeQuattro Center in Manchester - the administrative staff who always greeted him with smiles and warmth and the incredible nurses who fawned over him, treating him with gentleness, caring and utmost professionalism. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you did and do for people working so hard to beat cancer. All of us adored and admired Roger and thank him for bringing love, beauty, humor - and so much more - to our lives. He is inside and surrounding each of us. We will hold him close to us forever. A private remembrance will be held with family and close friends. His favorite charity was CRIS Radio and the family would be grateful if people would consider making a donation in his honor and memory. CRIS Radio, 315 Windsor Avenue, Windsor, CT 06095 or www.crisradio.org.

Dear Suzanne,

I was so sad to hear of Roger's passing. He was so artistic and funny, and touched so many lives. His photographs were beautiful and inspirational. My most vivid memory of Roger was how he kept Kim laughing during her own battle with cancer-a priceless gift for sure. I know he will be missed. Keeping you and your family close to my heart.

Love,

Ken Brookes

The news of Roger's passing rests heavy in my heart but, as I reflect on the years that I was honored to work with him, it brings a smile on my face and warm memories to my soul.
Roger was a wonderful talented man whose gift of photography captured the beauty of children and commitment of adults who worked with students of very special needs. Roger's images will convey his insights to our future leaders at Oak Hill School. While he will be dearly missed his photos reflecting so many memorable events will live on for generations to come. My thoughts and prayers are with Roger's beautiful wife, Suzanne and loving family.
Our sincerest condolences,
Anna and Ron Eddy

I am very fortunate to have known Roger for many years and to have spent many special occasions with Sue and Roger. As a result I was gifted with a number of Roger's incredible photographs which are hanging throughout my home. These lovely pictures bring much beauty into my life and are a wonderful reminder of Roger's talent and his generosity.

I have many wonderful memories of Roger but most of all his incredible sense of humor even during the most trying of times (the picture is a wonderful example). There were many times when he would make me laugh so hard that I would have tears streaming down my face. Once again I am brought to tears but with a smile because when I think of Roger I will always smile and be so thankful that I knew him.

Roger will be missed but will always be near and dear in our hearts.
