Ronald Armstrong Obituary

Ronald Lester Armstrong, 61, of Middletown, husband of the late Yvonne C. (Brown) Armstrong, died Tuesday, (April 15, 2003) at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. Born in Nashville, TN, he was the son of Dorothy Armstrong of Nashville, TN, and the late Samuel Armstrong. Ronnie attended Fisk University, Tennessee State, and Mesa College. He had lived in Middletown for 27 years, and had worked in social services for 20 years with several organizations in the Hartford area. His positions included program director at Center City Churches, director of Barnard House, and was also employed by Big Brothers of Hartford, Hartford Board of Education, and Hartford Parks and Recreation. After two decades of devoting his time and wisdom to youth, he started Corporate Janitorial in 1983. Corporate Janitorial received several awards, including the 1994 CT Supplier of the Year, 1997 U.S. Small Business Administration Award of Excellence, 2000 United Technology Supplier Diversity Award, and 2002 CT Minority Business Enterprise Empowerment Award. His commitment to social services carried over into his business, because of his dedication to helping others. Ronnie will be remembered for his contagious smile and kind heart. He was a devoted husband father, and friend. Ronald was a mentor and educator for many people. He had a charismatic approach and wisdom beyond his years. His will always be with us. Besides his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Tiffany Armstrong of Chicago, IL, and Sacha Armstrong-Crockett of Glastonbury and her husband Rodney; two grandchildren, Iyanna Yvonne Crockett, and Kiara Crockett; seven brothers and sisters, Saundra Smith, Kenneth Armstrong, Sharon Carter, Samuel L. Armstrong, Bonita Armstrong, Tanja Armstrong and Stephen Armstrong; and several adoring nieces and nephews. Besides his loving wife of 35 years, and his father, he was predeceased by two brothers, Ovis and Larry Armstrong. Memorial services will be held at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church St., Middletown, Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. The Rev. David Minnick will officiate and interment will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
