Roy Ferris Obituary

FERRIS, Roy Wesley Roy Wesley Ferris, 85, of Wells, ME, husband of Glenna (Sanborn) Ferris, died peacefully of natural causes at his daughter's home in Avon on Thursday (February 21, 2008). Born on November 29, 1922 in Sanford, ME, the first son of the late Roy and Edith (Hemingway) Ferris. He lived in Sanford and Springvale, ME until 1962 when he moved his family to Avon. In 1985, he retired as production manager of Northeast Metallurgical and moved to Wells, ME. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was called back into service during the Korean War. When he returned home, he joined the American Legion, Thomas W. Cole Post #19 in Sanford, ME and recently was recognized for 60 years of continual membership where he served as Post Commander and Chaplain. He was Commissioner of the York County Little League, and a member of the Sanford Country Club. In Connecticut, he was active in the Avon Lions Club, former member of Chippanee and Hopmeadow Country Clubs and still a member of the Avon Congregational Church. He leaves behind a family he adored who in return loved and respected him, his wife of 63 years, Glenna; his three children, Alan of Wake Forest, NC, David of Bristol and Sandra and her husband Richard Lytle of Avon; three brothers and their wives, Raymond and Roberta, William and Carol and Richard and Margaret Ferris; three sisters, Shirley McClellan, Barbara White and Katherine Dorn; five grandchildren and their spouses, Kristin Ferris, Travis and Kimberly Lytle, Eric and Jill Ferris, Kenneth and Leyla Lytle and Scott Lytle; five great grandchildren, Colby and Natalie Lytle, Talia Lytle and Kenan and Ashley Ferris; and countless nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three fun loving brothers-in-law, Cameron, John and David. The family wants to thank the VNA and their Hospice team for their care and compassion. A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, February 24, 2 p.m. at Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Rd., Avon. A reception will follow the service for family and friends at the Carmon Avon Family Center. Burial will take place in the Spring in Riverside Cemetery, Springvale, ME. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Thomas W. Cole Post #19 American Legion, 656 Main Street, Sanford, ME 04073, The Farmington Valley VNA, 8 Old Mill Rd., Simsbury, CT 06070 or to a charity of your choice.
