Rudolph Adolphus Bowen

1935 - 2023

Rudolph Adolphus Bowen, 87, of Hartford, beloved husband for 49 years of the late Linda (Shephard) Bowen, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 7, 2023, surrounded by his family at his home. Born in Montego Bay, St. James, Jamaica on August 13, 1935, son of the late Alfred and Vennette (Cranston) Bowen, he was raised in Montego Bay and migrated to the United States and settled in Hartford in the early 1960's.

After immigrating to the United States, Rudolph worked in the tobacco industry for several years before taking a position as a machinist for Dunham Bush-Hartford Compressors where he worked for over 30 years until his retirement. Rudolph worked tirelessly in the community to help others of West Indian dissent to acclimate to life in Connecticut.

Rudolph was an active member of Bethel AME Church for decades, and he lived out his faith in his everyday life. Rudolph loved spending time with family and especially enjoyed talking with his children, grandchildren, and more recently, his great-grandchildren. He leaves to mourn his passing, four children, Min. Dr. Coronica Richardson and her husband Elroy, Billy Bowen and his wife Sharon Copeland, and Phyllis Bowen, all of Bloomfield; Steve Bowen; a son-in-law, Gary W. Rogers, both of Hartford; a brother, Franco Bowen of Montego Bay, Jamaica; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a son, Tony Wright; and a daughter, Charlotte Rogers.

His family will receive friends on Friday, May 19, 10-11 a.m., followed by a Homegoing Service at 11 a.m., at Bethel AME Church, 1154 Blue Hills Ave., Bloomfield. Burial will follow in Mt.
